  1. Good afternoon, I got the email regarding the fare for 89 dollars to Maui but eveytime I get these deals why does the price shows different before booking? Can you please explain me how this works. Thank you

    1. Hi Sammy.

Likely you are either not looking at the route or dates for which there is that sale. If you want our help, please provide where you are flying from and approximate dates you hope to travel.

      Aloha.

  2. I’m confused, I thought the Mayor of Maui County wants to reduce tourists coming? Are the airlines thumbing their noses at the Mayor?

    1. Hi Sharon.

We can’t say if that’s the case. The situation is highly competitive, and that is the basis of the airline fare wars.

      Aloha.

  3. Hello! I so appreciate Beat of Hawaii. Thank you for all the great info and updates you publish, I am glad I found you.

I am going to Hawaii with friends for the first time 1/30 – 2/16, flying out of Seattle. First to Kona on 1/30 then to Maui on 2/9 and back to Seattle on 2/16. A friend offered up a companion fare on Alaska but at the moment, it is looking cheaper to use other airlines flying out of Seattle! I would love to do open-jaw ticket and fly home from Maui to Seattle, rather than have to return to Kona to keep all travel round-trip. Does open-jaw that route sound like an economical possibility in your experience?

I am thinking we might start seeing sale fares for late January/early February 2022 travel pretty soon. Would you agree? The person I would travel on the companion fare with is a little nervous and thought we should buy these tickets two months ago. I thought we should wait.

Thank you for any insight you might share,
    Erica

    1. Hi Erica.

We’ll be publishing a post today that speaks to your question of pricing, at least in part. Yes, we will start to see early 2022 sales soon. As for open jaw, virtually all airfares now are priced as one-way, so there will be no disadvantage in doing the routing in the way you would prefer.

      Aloha.

      1. RE: Question regarding OPEN Jaw flights. There is no difference in ONE Way fares vs ROUND trip fares any longer. That gives plenty of flexibility. Book multiple ONE WAY fares for the entire trip.

    1. Not sure where you’re looking but car rental prices have dropped significantly!! Going 9/6 for 3 weeks and we’re paying less than $40 a day thru Costco!!

    2. Rental prices have deopped recently. We are bouncing over from O’ahu in October and got a full size sedan vua Dollar for $244 (includes tax and all charges) for four days. You just gotta look bro. Mahalo.

  4. The airlines are only thinking of filling their planes by these bargain air fares. Maui residents and locals are already complaining about being over run with tourists. A cheap airfare is bait to get you there — then you get hit with outrageous car rental fees, high hotel rates and restaurants that can’t serve you properly. The road to Hana is a traffic jam with tourist cars double parked at every scenic spot. Just so you know what you’re getting into.

    1. I have heard car rental agencies have gotten shipments of cars!!! Am seeing pricing on car rentals much cheaper on all islands. Even throughout this year. Finally!!! Much Aloha!

  5. With the difficulty the airlines are having with flight cancellations and the inability for the car rental companies to provide the needed transportation for all the visitors, not to mention the skyrocketing Covid case numbers on the islands, it is beyond me why the airlines, car companies and the local governments would want to have these kind of promotions. It cannot be good business for the airlines or the car rental companies not to be able to provide their services on time or at all. And the governor cannot seem to get a handle on the transmission of the virus, which is allegedly mostly being spread by the locals, but will no doubt begin to affect the visitors….even those who have been vaccinated. This just sound totally irresponsible on all levels. However, I guess if you make the tickets, car rentals and hotel rentals non-refundable it could be very profitable for them.

    1. Amen!! Airlines don’t care our islands are being overwhelmed and over run. Yes people should be able to visit but not with the numbers that now make it near impossible for them let alone locals to enjoy our home. The greed of the airlines has to stop. It’s simply not sustainable. Sadly more and more of these tourists have no sense of aloha either.
I love you guys at BOH but at the same time wince when you do your job so well and publish these fares 😂🤣

  6. The only trouble with booking flights now is that the airlines keep canceling flights. We are scheduled to come to Maui in October. We booked in March and our flight was cancelled and we rescheduled, last week part of our flight home was cancelled and we had to reschedule that portion. We hope there are no more cancellations.

  7. Somewhat related, are you aware of any restrictions in United direct flights from ORD to OGG? From review of their flight schedule next June (2022), as an example, there are no direct flights on Tuesday or Wednesday. Any United flights out of Chicago on those two days would require at least one-stop. I am planning on departing Chicago on June 8 and was seeking a direct flight on United.

    Thank you!

    1. Hi Bob.

For that far out, the schedules will definitely be updated based on demand. It seems they aren’t yet confident of need to run 7 days a week.

      Aloha.

  8. Thank you for providing this valuable service! We are planning a Maui trip next year in Oct-Nov 2022. We have hotel reservations but are unable to book flights that far in advance! Do we simply have to wait or is there another way to book flights that far in advance? Also, is it smart to book way in advance or wait for deals? Okay sorry… that’s two questions!
Thanks again for all the timely and useful information!

    1. Hi Tom.

For everyone other than SWA, booking is 330 days in advance. SWA has a much shorter booking window.

      Aloha.
