  1. Hi, can you please identify the source for the updated flight information noted in the article:
    https://beatofhawaii.com/hawaiian-airlines-flight-cancellations/
which states Mainland US to Hawaii flights are suspended until June 1? I am trying to cancel a booking for May 17-22, 2020 and the airline is telling me that my flight is still operating..? The information in this article is not on Hawaiian Airlines official website; the dates they have only run through end of April..? Very confusing.
I would like some back-up documentation to help my case to get my tickets refunded. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

    1. Hi Dominick.

The source was the actual availability for booking on the airline’s website. Those flights were removed as indicated.

Have your read our article and seen discussions we have had with U.S. DOT? https://beatofhawaii.com/wait-to-get-your-refund-and-maybe-more-hawaii-flights-cancelled/.

We cannot say for sure, but if airlines have their flights removed from the schedule, DOT “might” in the future construe that to mean cancelled, which then compels the offer of refunds. This is an industry wide situation that continues to evolve wherein the airlines are sitting on a multi billion dollar liability.

In reality, travel to Hawaii is not feasible at this time, as all arrivals are subject to a mandatory 14-day isolation that means you must be sequestered in your hotel room, period. No beach, no grocery store, nothing. We do not know when that will end for sure, but hope to learn more soon.

You will need to wait a bit to see what happens, but hopefully that clarifies the situation and answers your question.

      Aloha.

    2. UPDATE: My wife and I received our refund IN FULL for our airfare related to our trip originally scheduled 5/17 thru 5/22. While it took much longer than I feel comfortable with, it’s nice to finally be able to put this behind us. I hope everyone gets refunds that are owed to them. Thanks for everyone’s comments, support and advice – be well.

      1. I received email notification that my flight would be refunded too. Took a very long time and lots of replies from Hawaiian Airlines that I would not be refunded because change was less than 6 hours. Even up to last week they were holding to that.

First I complained to HA consumer affairs back in May. Then a few days later filed complaint to DOT and Credit Card. All for nothing. Then someone on here suggested the BBB. I filed with them and immediately got a reply from HA with the same 6hrs sorry no refund. Then BBB sent me notification of HA same reply and asked if I accepted that reply. I refused to accept and sent my explanation why.

10 days later from HA “We are constantly reviewing our polices as the situation with the C0VID-19 pandemic evolves. We’ve made some revisions to our policy and your tickets under ###### are now eligible for a refund. We will process the refund to the original card used for payment. This should occur within the next 7 days.

Thank you for choosing Hawaiian Airlines. We look forward to welcoming you onboard a Hawaiian Airlines flight in the future.”

So finally a resolution. I don’t know if they truly reviewed policies or if in the end it was my refusal to accept response to BBB that did it. Regardless I am thankful. Flight was for may 16 through June 2. So for those still working it, don’t give up and don’t take no for an answer. Worst case you put out a bunch of energy and end up with the replacement flight before end of May 2022. Honestly all of this has me rethinking future air travel and any future travel I will be spending extra for fully refundable flights.

Good luck to all and thank you Beat of Hawaii for providing this resource. It has kept me calm throughout the process and has given me the information needed to get some closure. This airfare money can definitely be put to better use right now.

  2. Could you please tell me when Hawaiian Air resumed their flights from SJC to OGG. We thought they were cancelled on their web site but now seem to be available. We had reservations and cancelled everything because of what we read on your site and then saw on their site. Very confused! Thanks

    1. Hi Laurie.

Hawaiian announced that they were only flying essential service through May 20, then subsequently flights through the rest of the month were removed from their website.

In any event, if flights operate, you would be subject to a 14 day mandatory isolation unless and until that requirement is removed by the State of Hawaii. That includes no beaches, no grocery, no leaving your hotel room. That is in large part why Hawaiian has cancelled or removed flights.

      Aloha.

  3. Have to wait another 19 days more than I planned to see Pualani come back to Boston 😢
Thankfully, our trip was completed right before it got really crazy… We hope to be back to Hawaii the winter AFTER next, but we will book well ahead for sure. Thanks for all the info BoH!

  4. good morning,

my wife and I are scheduled to depart hnl on 2 may flight HA50. I now read all flights to east coast are cancelled until 1 june. can I expect any help with finding another route to east coast (new york, new jersey, Philadelphia) . need to make living arrangements, car rental and banking decisions. your help with any information will be great help.

    thank you

    William&anne c

    1. Hi William.

The best you can reasonably expect from Hawaiian is to be rescheduled or to obtain a refund. Since they are operating the essential service to Los Angeles and San Francisco from Honolulu daily, you could also discuss with them switching to that.

      Aloha.

  5. Can you tell me please if my Hawaiian Airlines flight from Boston, Massachusetts to Honolulu on 5/30 is cancelled? Thankyou! Mardi S

    1. Hi Mardi.

“Cancelled” is an official term. The flight is not operating, but it may or may not be cancelled yet. You’ll need to contact the airline..

      Aloha.

    2. Mardi I sure hope you get to fly… Looks like it’s going to be June 1st now unfortunately. You’ll LOVE the flight! Best 11 hours ever! (We had a “short” flight at 10:48) The Flight Attendants are AMAZING, there’s food, Mai tais, Hawaiian themed movies/tv (pack a tablet/device with your own stuff too tho!) I always pick the right hand side to sit for two reasons… you can’t see the other islands too well on the descent on the way in, but you get the first good look at diamond head as you come off the runway AND the sun shines on the other side of the plane the whole trip!

IF you can’t go nonstop from Boston, Hawaiian MAY be able to reciprocal book you or re-accommodate you somehow via the west coast using JetBlue or even another airline. You may have to be a bit flexible to do it-perhaps you’d need to leave a day early to catch the one or two Hawaiian flights from the west coast via LAX/SFO at ~10am. Unfortunately, I don’t think the current JetBlue schedule from Boston can get you to LAX or SFO in time for those flights but I could be wrong. I believe the first JetBlue LAX flight (on regular schedule) arrives to LAX from BOS at 10:15am pacific. The other airlines’s early flights are similarly timed. Good luck and much Aloha!

  6. Good Morning
will your company be sending cash refunds for cancelled flight? Thank you and have a great day.

  7. Hawaiian Airlines said that just because the flight is not showing does not mean it is cancelled. They will not refund a flight unless it is “truly cancelled.” They just took down the information making it look like there are no flights. They are waiting until the flights get closer to the actual flight date before cancelling. However, if they cancel the flight you get a full refund. If you have a round trip flight, only one segment of the flight needs to have been cancelled and you will receive a refund. If you cancel your reservation before they cancel a flight, then you must rebook and use your flight before December 31,2020. If you bought upgrades they will be honored for the new reservation, and no change fees will be implemented. However they will charge you the difference in fare price. Also, your return trip can be after December 31, 2020.

  8. I was on the phone with Hawaiian airlines and they are telling me the flights in May are not cancelled yet and will not refund my flights. This email says that the flight from Long Beach to Honolulu is cancelled until June 1st. My flight is scheduled on May 12. Please clarify.

    1. Hi Emily.

The airlines, in this case Hawaian, have removed flights as we indicated from the schedules. We have reached out to the US DOT for clarification on this.

      Aloha.

  9. Thanks for this information- attempted to request refund for our 5/19-5/28 trip from New York – HNL – LIH via Hawaiian Airlines.. pleasantly surprised to get right through to customer service on the phone, but they are denying that these routes are cancelled and advised I’d need to file a complaint through Consumer Affairs to request a refund. They advised me to visit http://www.hawaiianairlines.com/CAO to do so (ha Ha)- which only takes me to their contact page. Really disappointed in their handling of this!

    1. Hi Laura.

Sorry to hear that. We are awaiting additional clarification regarding all the airlines from DOT on this.

      Aloha.

  10. I had a Hawaiian airlines ticket which is headed for Korea on 1st May. Today I got a massage from travel agency that the schedule has been cancelled. Yes, you are right. Thanks for informing me even fater than the official announcement.
