  1. Our family of 5 is considering a spring break trip to any of the islands. If we left on 3/22 and returned 4/1, how low do you think prices would go out of ORD or ATL? We are much closer to STL, BNA, CVG & IND, but would drive for a deal. Thanks in advance!

    1. Hi Natalie.

Starting at about $1,100 RT from either location. Dates are prime spring break Saturdays.

      Aloha.

  2. Why is it that when I go to the airlines websites (Alaska or Hawaiian) right after reading Beat of Hawaii, I can NEVER find prices as low as quoted in Beat of Hawaii? Are the least expensive seats sold out within 5 minutes of this newsletter being emailed to everyone? The least expensive SAN to HNL price is $219 (either way) from August through December, not $198 to $203 as mentioned above. What’s up??

  3. Hi there,

Love the information on Hawaii, thank you! We are planning a trip from June 1, 2019 to June 8, 2019 from Salt Lake City, Utah to Maui. When would be our best bet to buy airline tickets? I’m not against driving to other airports if it’s worth it. Thanks for the help!

    1. Hi Micah.

Early June should have good pricing, but Saturdays never will. Any chance you can fly some other days of week? Best pricing for that time period probably won’t happen until about 90 days before travel.

      Aloha.

    2. I am wondering the same thing. For example today’s email read flights from $189 (I assume that’s one way)

but when I click on the link it takes me to the websites, (this time it was on Hawaiian Air) I plug in the dates within the window that was given (tried Jan and Feb from Seattle to Kona)and lowest fare was around there $750. Round-trip. Which doesn’t come close to the $189 one-way fare.

      Am I doing something wrong?
      Thank you
      Michele

      1. Hi Michelle.

There are still $176 each way fares on Hawaiian for mid-week (Monday through Thursday) travel in January on that route.

        Aloha.

  4. Thank you for always keeping us in the loop!!!! I have been 1) waiting for the SWA news, but am always eager to snag a Hawaiian Airlines deal. Today with your sale announcement; booked SFO-OGG late August for a 3-day weekend get-away for $406.00 direct flights!!! Woo Hoo!!! Mahalo !!!!!

  5. Hello, looking for 4 RT tickets from LAX to Maui OGG Dec 20 -30th..do you think prices will drop? We’ve usually purchased by now but prices seem to still be high..do you think they’ll drop?
    Thank you

    1. Hi Tiffany.

From $820 on your dates. $749 if you depart a day earlier. If you can play with a day or two you might do better. We don’t expect rates to improve.

      Aloha.

  6. aloha! my family wants to travel from SEA to OGG Oct. 12th to OCT. 19TH. FARES ARE AROUND 600 NOW. Should we wait for better fares or snag them now? Love your site! Keep up the good work and thank-you so much.

    1. Hi George.

Yes do wait. Target price perhaps $500. It could be up to $100 less than that if you travel on Thursdays instead of Fridays.

      Aloha.

    1. Hi Cheryl.

Currently $500 on multiple airlines. Since you’re mid-week, suggest you wait. Can’t say for sure, but there’s a very good chance of $50 to $100 less, and no downside in waiting.

      Aloha

  7. Looking for RT from PIT to HNL leaving 11/30 returning 12/8. We can fly to the West Coast if needed if that is cheaper.

  8. Aloha!

Thank you for the heads up on this sale. Looking at fares for a trip on HAL from the Bay Area (SJC, OAK, or SFO) to Maui with flexible departure dates of Sept 20-22 and flexible return dates of Sept 29-30. The current HAL sale has fares running $377-$397 r/t. Do you recommend booking now or waiting for a potentially better fare for late Sept travel?

Enjoy the site and mahalo for your help!

    1. Hi Chris.

Your weekend return will almost definitely preclude best pricing. $457 right now. Not sure if it will improve. If it does, perhaps target $400. Midweek on both departure and return might have $350 or less as target.

      Aloha.

  9. Hello! Looking for RT from LAX to Kona sometime in January 2019. Should I buy now, 6 months out? Thank you! Deb K

  10. Hi, I am traveling 4/13 to 4/20 from St. Louis to ogg, I believe that prices will go down a lot, but I don’t know how much. Is that a busy time in Hawaii? Thanks in advance for your input! Brandy

    1. Hi Brandy.

Seasonal price target with fast connection is about $600. However your wanting to travel on Saturdays, so that might or might not work out. Best time to buy might be January.

      Aloha.

  11. Aloha, can you help us??
Whatabout Brisbane to Honolulu, We have booked and ticketed our tickets for October 27th.. one way tickets for 4 people. cost was 644.00, if it is less now can we get a refund, or if you have first class, can you apply that refund and we can pay a difference to go with extra comfort, or business class. Mahalo, for taking the time to help us out. Hope to hear from you soon.
    Sincerely,
    Leslie

  12. Hi I tried searching forflights from Los Angeles to Kauai around November 17-24 and it comes to over $1500 per person?! What am I missing? Please advise. Thank you!

    1. Hi Jon.

Kindly review the “Pukas,” “Fares” and “Availability” information we provided for clarification. You’re trying to fly the Saturdays around Thanksgiving. No deals will be available.

      Aloha.

  13. Aloha, 2 of us arriving in Honolulu Nov 19. We would like to go to both Kauai & Molokai. Do you suggest booking inter island flights now or waiting for a sale? Always look forward to your posts! Thank you so much for the awesome information!!

    Julie

    1. Hi Julie.

Really no advantage to waiting. Any sales are minor until there is competition perhaps starting next year. Pricing is largely time of day and day of week dependent. Also, you’re at Thanksgiving, which will make it that much trickier and more expensive. Suggest you buy now.

      Aloha.

  14. Do you think $357 R.T from from bay area (ca), is the best price we will see for travel at the end of Sept. 2018.

  15. Aloha,
    Going to Maui on 5/7/19 – 5/14/19, cheapest I found is $559.13,
From LAS, should I be patient and wait?

    Thank you

  16. Do you have flights at sale prices from Omaha to Honolulu in November/December 2018.
    Love Honolulu. Jeanie S.

  17. Hi! I very much enjoy your website and all of the information I receive there and by email. I’ll be traveling to Honolulu from Baltimore mid-October. I see a lot of the sale fares that you share but none from here, and flights vary from just under $900 to $1500 in economy class and on up from there. Is this he best I can do or should I try to wait it out a little bit longer? Seats are getting more scarce…! Thank you so much in advance for any suggestions and guidance you may have for me.

    1. Hi Maggie.

Thank you. $644 2-stop or $722 1-stop on United for mid week in October. Probably good enough to buy now as not sure it will improve.

      Aloha.

  18. Lots of comments here!!! Great info… Trying to go from Oakland, SF, or Sacramento to Maui Leaving any day between September 29th and October 6, staying for 7 days….. Willing to stay 8 or 9 days also if the flights are cheaper… We are on a two week school break and this is our first time trying to go to Maui… We have never been because the flights are always sooooo expensive… Should I buy now or wait for a lower rate… What should be my target price point? What airlines should I be looking at? THANK YOU SO MUCH IN ADVANCE…. I think we may finally get there this year!!!

    1. Hi Dan.

At this point, hang on for the next sale we publish for fall dates. Should be easy to pick up under $400 on most of those routes for your dates.

      Have a great vacation.

      Aloha.

  19. Hi! Thanks so much for all this wonderful info. My chief interest is visiting Maui with my daughter in winter for the arrival of the humpbacks. We like going out daily on a zodiac when poossible. We’d be flying out of the NYC area and want to see a lot of whales. Can you please tell me what you see as the best time to come and the best time to buy sale tickets? OGG is good but we’re not picky. Thank you for your advice.

    1. Hi Chris.

Whales are hear approximately November through April. And deals are November through early December, then again after holidays and before spring break. Sales for those periods have already started, but more will be coming. Stay tuned, as we often feature deals from New York.

      Aloha.

  20. Aloha,
We are planning a trip to Honolulu December 1st through the 8th. Its a large non profit youth group flying over for Pearl Harbor Remembrance Week. Do you know of anyways to get low fares for non profit groups? And will prices go down for December flights after the summer sale? Is Oakland CA cheaper then San Francisco to fly out of?

Thanks for taking the time to read this. Love the info on your blog.

    Mahalo,
    Erin

    1. Hi Erin.

Thank you. We don’t know about any discounts for non-profits. But for 10 or more traveling together you can contact the group sales desks of applicable airlines and inquire. Yes there will be lower fares for December, but probably not for your Saturday departure and return. Just mid-week. Either airport might be cheapest, they both get a lot of deals.

      Aloha.

  21. Please do you have recommendationo on where to stay and a deal on the Big Island. TV shows are reporting empty resorts due to the volcano…tourism down 50 %… but they showed also that the majority of the Island is unaffected. I love Hawaii and would like to visit again!

    1. Hi Mary.

We don’t typically write about accommodations and aren’t ourselves aware of any deals for the Big Island. Lots of good airfares to all of the islands – that’s for sure.

      Aloha.

  22. Hi, we will be flying to Oahu from Southern California from Sept. 20-27. Have a choice of flying out of San Diego, Long Beach or LAX. The best price I have found were $497 RT. Should I buy when I see the opportunity or wait for a better deal?

  23. Hi
Looking forward to seeing Oahu with a group of 8-9 people. Traveling from MSP. We need to travel between 12.26.18 & 1.6.19 which is peak time. What price should we expect for airfare? Any tips on how to get the best rate? Thanks!

    1. Hi Mary.

About $1,200, with nonstop only costing about $100 more and being ever so convenient and time-saving. You’d need to change return to several days later to save substantively. Doubt price will improve and suggest buying now.

      Aloha.

  24. Traveling from Sacramento to Maui in October. There seem to be cheaper flights all around the dates we are scheduled to go but not the dates we are flying. Flying in on a Tuesday and flying out on a Monday. Flights are more expensive from October 7-25. Is there something going on during that time making it more expensive?

  25. Hello, I’m currently looking for flights to Oahu from Indianapolis, current round trips are ranging from 700-750. I am curious should i wait till it gets closer to the trip time since our trip is October and will the prices drop.

  26. I will be flying to Oahu, HI early September during the week from Tampa, FL or Birmingham, AL. Should I wait for better prices? The price if i book now for September is from $703 to $756 and higher. Thank you!!

    1. Hi Beverly.

Low $700’s is the best we generally see from TPA, so not likely that will improve. Anytime you find that would be a good buying opportunity.

      Aloha.

  27. Hello,
My family is traveling from Portland Oregon to Maui on October 29 and returning November 6th . We prefer to fly non stop on Hawaiian airlines and right now I see prices at $457. Do you think prices will come down or should we book now?

    Thank you,

    Tiffany

    1. Hi Tiffany.

Pretty strong chance it will come down from there if you wait for next fall sale. Target price under $400RT.

      Aloha.

  28. Aloha
We will be vacationing from Nov 19 to the 27th in Maui . Flying from San Francisco to OGG.
Tickets @744 currently . Do you think they might come down in price ? Should I wait to purchase tickets ?
    Thank you

    1. Hi Diane.

Not too likely to come down since you’re still firmly positioned within Thanksgiving dates. You’d have to move a day or two further like 20 to 28th. That will lower by close to $200.

      Aloha.

  29. Aloha and thanks for the reminder about these deals!

I’m looking at an early October trip including LGB-HNL and LIH-LAX. The round trip airfare is just over $1K for two when timed properly. Do you think fares may dip further in the interim or is this deal worth buying now?

    Mahalo!

    1. Hi Jeff.

If you’re flexible on days of week, then we’ll have better prices ahead for fall travel. You might save $100 or more per person. For weekends, much less variability.

      Aloha.

  30. Hi- is there any way to find out what will be open & closed on Northshore Kauai in the near future. We have a trip planned in early June and am looking for information. Aloha. Andy

    1. Hi Andy.

We haven’t heard anything about the road beyond Waikoko (Hanalei) and when it will be opened to non-residents.

      Aloha.

  31. Any insights about the Kilauea eruption. Will be on Hawaii on 5/29 and 30 on shore trips off Pride of America.
Booked Volcanoes Natl Park and Helicopter tour.
No word yet from Hawaiian Air or Norwegian Cruise Line.
    Thanks

  32. Flying from Dallas to Honolulu October 31-November 7 any idea of how much those tickets would be?

  33. Hi,

We are honeymooning in Maui on October 14 – 23. We are flexible on airport (ideally Panhandle of Florida, but could fly from Atlanta or Nashville). Do you have any recommendations on cheapest airport, when to buy as well as a target price? Any information would be very much appreciated!

    Thanks!

    1. Hi Taylor.

On your dates – $750+ from BNA or ATL. TLH is going to be quite a bit higher as you would expect. Sunday departure is going to keep it a big more expensive. Not sure it will improve much by waiting.

      Aloha.

  34. Hi, Any thoughts on travel to the Big Island this summer with Kilauea erupting? A couple weeks ago, I booked a vacation rental overlooking the Kapoho tide pools for mid-August, and am wondering if we should plan to stay only on the west side. Obviously, my vacation is nothing compared to the people who live there and are evacuated and possibly losing their homes! Just trying to plan–would still like to visit the Big Island this summer. Thanks so much for all your great info.
    –eowyn

    1. Hi Eowyn.

Your location is very near the eruption which probably isn’t the best choice at the moment. Anywhere else on the Big Island will of course be fine. Come – you’ll have a great time.

      Aloha.

  35. Hi
We’re flying San Jose to Honolulu. Then to kauai and back to san jose. Sept 10-27. Was going to book with Hawaiian air on the fall sale. It’s about $600. Do you think we’ll see better pricing in the next months?

    Thanks
    Deb

    1. Hi Deb.

Currently $483 on Hawaiian. Looks like it could come down by up to $100 if you can wait. Should work out well for your mid-week, off-season dates.

      Aloha.

  36. Aloha–My family and I will be traveling to Oahu in September. Today, the round-trip fare for our dates is $526. Should we book the flights, or wait? Mahalo!

    1. Hi Susan.

You didn’t say where you are traveling from but your IP address indicates Bay Area. For mid-week travel from Bay Area it looks good for more deals ahead and suggest watching with us and waiting for the moment. If you’re traveling on weekends, it may well not improve.

      Aloha.

      Aloha.

  37. Will you be reporting on the quakes & lava? Just checking… On the Big Island, we just having a serious of escalating quakes. It might be prudent for visitors to be prepared for locally generated tsunamis and stay away from tall older concrete structures.
