  1. i am going to maui Dec 5 – 12, 2013 I am curious as to whale watching what whale watching company has the best expedition?

    1. Hi Karen,

That will be a great time for whale watching on Maui. We don’t typically recommend activity companies. But I can suggest the Maui Revealed guidebook as a great resource for activities among other things.

      Aloha.

  2. Hi,

I want to leave from LAX around November 7 until November 18 to HNL. Right now the cheapest airfare I’ve seen is $473. Do you think it will go down in the next couple of weeks?

    1. Hi Tiff,

I think odds favor a fare drop rather than an increase. You can fly on Allegiant for about $350 if that is of interest.

      Aloha

  3. Hi, I’m planning on a trip to Kauai in early June from 7-14 but the flights are about $930 right now. Is it too early to book? When would be a good time to buy?

    1. Hi Elizabeth,

You didn’t mention where you will be flying from but based on the price you indicated I’ll guess Los Angeles. If you can leave a few days earlier the price is several hundred dollars less. San Diego also has rates of about $200 less. And if you fly to Honolulu that is about $200 less (although getting interisland flights won’t be easy).

Otherwise it will be up to supply and demand, and right now the airlines don’t see any need to drop the price. It may or may not happen, but that may not be known until much closer to your travel dates. It’s a tough call if you’re set on flying those peak season dates.

      Aloha.

  4. We are hoping to go back to Hawaii next summer. Hopefully 2nd-3rd week of August. Any suggestions about when we should expect to find airfare deals?

    1. Hi Karen,

Those weeks “should” yield better pricing compared with earlier in the summer. Start watching in the late winter or after for sales.

      Aloha.

  5. We are going to Maui in February, currently airfare is about $680 for our dates. We flying from PDX, is this what we should expect to pay, or do you think airfare will get cheaper if we wait?

    Thanks

    1. Hi Cindy.

Verdict is out on your situation. It may get cheaper, but that isn’t guaranteed. February is relatively high season. I’d wait.

      Aloha.

  6. We just returned from Maui and can’t wait to go back next summer and take our children with us. When is the best time to find good deals on flights originating in Houston? We want to travel in June or July of 2014.

    1. Hi Candace,

Well other than very early June, that is going to be a costly time to travel here. Having said that, for peak seasons, we usually suggest buying when first available – 330 days in advance. Unfortunately there’s no exact formula, and the airlines are the masters of demand pricing.

      Aloha.

  7. I was looking to travel after Christmas and the flights were over $1200 each, do you know when would be a good time to get them is booking now too early and will prices come down at all?? Thanks

    1. Hi Kristina,

Where are you flying from and to and do you have specific dates or are you flexible?

      Aloha.

    2. I am coming from San Diego, the dates are pretty flexible during a two week period. So it can be anytime the week of December 20-27.

      1. Hi Kristina,

There will not be deals for those dates. The range of fares is $700-1200 for Christmas and New Years weeks. After early January fares will drop, but it isn’t possible to say when those fares will be announced.

        ALoha.

  8. i am flying to maui in early december. still looking for ticket deals. Since I will be staying in Kaanapali, Is it worth my while flying mokulele airlines to Kona. The airlines has gotten mixed reviews on their flights leaving late or being cancelled. I want to know if I will be getting into kona in a timely manner not waiting several hours just hoping to get over to the big island.

    1. Hi Marilyn,

There should be, but it will obviously be a function of supply and demand. We’ll be watching for them.

      Aloha.
