  1. Hello, we’re flying from Cincinnati to Kona, staying from November 16-23. Right now tickets are around $1020/each. Based on some research most sites are saying to monitor for now and get serious about booking 15 weeks out, which would be the first week of August. What would you recommend? Thanks!

    1. Hi Jeff,

We see $852 if you have a little flexibility and can leave on the 17th and return on the 24th or 25th. At that price, it might be good to buy. Otherwise, suggest some caution as your dates are approaching Thanksgiving. Even if prices ease, and that is a big if in the current environment, your return date could be excluded. It also depends on your threshold for pain in waiting for the unknown.

As stated previously, the people who are telling you to wait until some specific date have no idea of what will happen. These look back in time to what has happened previously and that is largely irrelevant at this point.

      Aloha.

  2. HI, WE ARE PLANING A TRIP IN SEPTEMBER FOR 10 DAYS.WE ARE FROM THE EAST COAST. ANY AIRLINES YOU RECOMMEND FOR PRICING RT AIRFARE

  3. Our family is planning a trip to Maui in mid July. Do you foresee any kind of price sale during the summer? Several of my friends are planning trips in late June, and early July, and they are not willing to pay $800-$900 RT. I would guess that many people will change their travel plans, and go elsewhere, if prices don’t go down. What is your opinion?

    1. Hi David,

We don’t expect summer prices to go down. That is quite normal for peak season mid-June through mid-August.

Demand is very high and it if you do plan to come we suggest booking air, hotel and car immediately.

      Aloha.

  4. Greetings everyone,
I posted a while back looking for cheap tickets from Los Angeles to Honolulu and I needed to but 10 tickets leaving April 9th(next week). Well I watched the prices fluctuate and i really needed them to get back down as close to $500 as possible and right when time seemed to be against me and the tickets were hovering around $700 and $800, about 3 days ago (and I’m signed up for alerts from everywhere) hawaiin air sent a alert for $500 tickets! We won’t all be sitting together but we will get there at the same time:-)

    1. Hi Charmine,

As we always suggest when buying 10 tickets, get in touch with the group sales department of each of the airlines.

      Aloha.

  5. Hello!
My fiance and I are going to Oahu & Kaui for our honeymoon in August! We are flying out of Minneapolis and into Oahu on August 19 flying back on August 29. Right now airfares are around $900 a ticket. Hold out for a better deal since we are in that cheaper rate window of time? Maybe the airlines have not dropped the prices yet?
    What you think?
Thanks for your help and info!

    1. Hi Amanda,

If you leave on the 19th instead, and either return on same date or l day later, fares are about $900 on US Airways/American Airlines. Hope that helps. Suggest you consider buying now if your dates are fixed.

      Aloha.

  6. Hi,

We are traveling to Kauai Sept 18 – Oct 4. We are flying out of Harrisburg, Pa. The flights are $1,100. and up right now. Do you think the prices will drop if we wait? I so, when would be the best window to purchase our flight tickets?

    Thank you

    1. Hi Sharon,

Fly out of Philadelphia and return either on the 3rd or the 6th and there are fares of just over $800 on US Airways/American Airlines. That’s the best bet and suggest buying that now.

      Aloha.

    2. Thanks for your response. Flying out of Philadelphia won’t work for us. Kayak says they are 79% sure the prices will drop in 7 days. Price out of Harrisburg right now is $1,098. From your responses to other posts it sounds like you are saying to buy sooner than later this year. Even for travel in Sept. It sounds like the advice to not buy until 3 months out doesn’t work this year. So do you think $1,098. is good price out of Harrisburg or should we hold out longer and how much longer?

      Thanks

      /

      1. Hi Sharon.

Truth is no one including Kayak knows and even the airlines are making it up as they go. Harrisburg has no deals and even Philly has very few. Best suggestion is whatever you do don’t look back and have regrets. The up or down price variability probably won’t be much.

        Have a great trip!

        Aloha.

    1. Hi Stephanie,

The cheapest is to fly in off hours, early morning and late night. Try both Island Air and Hawaiian Airlines and compare price.

      Aloha.

  7. Hi,

We are hoping to fly from LAX to Kona September 11th – 18th of 2014. Flights are $608 round trip. From what I read, this is slightly more than average and I want to wait to buy. My boyfriend disagrees and thinks the rates will rise, but we are 5 1/2 months out and haven’t hit summer sales for fall flights yet. What do you think?

    Thank you!

    1. Hi Kate,

This isn’t a normal year, and the airlines have unprecedented control over inventory and pricing. So if you’re okay with paying slight more than the lowest conceivable price, we’d suggest buying now and not looking back. Have a great trip!

      Aloha.

  8. Hi – are there more reasonable fares on certain days of the week coming from Texas in to Honolulu? What is the cheapest time of the summer months too?

    1. Hi Shannon,

Saturdays tend to be higher. Best priced travel dates will be from 18 August on.

      Aloha.

  9. Well, the rates to Maui from PHX May 23-30th never materialized so we couldn’t wait any longer. Dates for May and early June from LAX are $303/$315 one way.
Ours was $630 RT from Fri-Fri. The way airfares were going since January it just didn’t look promising. I know you guys are still waiting for that sale fare-good luck.
