  1. Aloha!
My family would like to visit Maui between Sept 17-23. Who has the best flight rates and when is the best day to fly from San Diego, Ca?

    Mahalo,
    Chris

    1. Hi Chris,

Best deal for those dates is $562 on Alaska nonstop. You’ll pay a premium of up to $100 for weekend travel nonstop vs. midweek with stop.

      Aloha.

  2. Leaving from LAX to OGG Maui on Jan 2-Jan12, 2016. I’ve been seeing averages of $495-$510, will it get lower closer to Jan? Thsnks

    1. Hi Ed.

Doesn’t look like it will get much lower. That seems to be where it is settling. Suggest buying.

      Aloha.

  3. My wife and I will be in Maui Feb 21 – Mar 4 and plan to take day trips to Honolulu and the Big Island. How far in advance should we book those flights to maximize availability and minimize costs? Thanks.

    1. Hi Frank.

If you’re planning to be away all day that may help as the earliest and latest flights tend to be less costly. It wouldn’t hurt to buy these sooner than later inasmuch as the sale prices don’t save you a huge amount in comparison to the convenience of having what you need set in advance.

      Aloha.

  4. Hello! Thank you for your Awesome sight. I have been looking for airfare but have not seen it come down. Looking to visit Oahu Oct 15-23, 201 from SLC, UT to Honolulu. I know it is weekend travel but it is the only way we can go. I am down to the deadline. Do you think airfare will come down at all? If so what do you think I should be planning on paying?

    Thank you for your help!

    Nicole

    1. Hi Nicole.

Thank you. Not very good prices generally out of SLC at this time unfortunately. Weekends are about $120 or so worse yet. Nonstop is also at a premium. Not sure that it will improve or that is worth waiting.

      Aloha.

  5. Looking to spend 10 nights on Kauai in Sept 2017 for our 20 yr anniversary. We’ve been twice before, but its been a dozen years since our last visit. Wondering your thoughts about when to start looking to book a package deal. Also, I’ve found its hard to find anything that will incorporate a first class ticket. Any suggestions? Can leave from Jacksonville or Orlando. Thank you very much!

    1. Hi Mike.

We don’t monitor packages. Also not sure there is really any savings to be found with them. Perhaps more convenience but it might work out better to just do the research and put it all together. Orlando is usually cheaper than Jacksonville and September is certainly better than summer – price wise. And there aren’t deals on first class, but perhaps some seasonal fluctuations. You should be looking in early 2017 for air and you might start now for accommodations. The most popular vacation rentals on Kauai sell out very far in advance. Lastly suggest the Kauai Revealed guidebook if you don’t have a current version already. Most helpful.

      Aloha.

  6. Hello, I am planning a graduation trip June 15-22,2017 departure from Sacramento CA. I have found RT flights on Alaskan and Hawaiian for around $700-800 per person. Should I wait or book? Thank you, Melanie

  7. Hi,
I love your website! So much information, thank you!

My husband and I are taking the kids to Aulani. We are looking to go late February. Could push it out a little into March – so basically somewhere between February 20- March 3rd. We want to stay 5-6 nights. We are flying from Portland, Oregon. Right now Hawaiian Air and Alaska prices are about $475- $494. Right now I am flexible in terms of what day to fly out on (I haven’t booked our room yet). What is your experience should we try to fly out on a Monday (that would make our return Sunday)? Or another combo? Also, it seems like from what you have said on your site that prices should come down a little further. When do you recommend I buy the tickets? Thanks for all your help!

    1. Hi Juile.

Thank you. How about 2/23 through 3/1 or 3/2. $428 on Alaska. Good price for that route. If that works suggest buying now since that route isn’t seeing anything better than that.

      Aloha.

  8. Hi, We are currently booked to visit Kauai from Nov3 – 15. We wish to leave from Detroit. Best prices I have seen over the past 4 months was like 875 with delta. Last week they (delta) was at 915 and fluctuate daily/weekly anywhere from 1000 – 915. I have also been looking at American air and US air. I have haerd there are usually fall deals but time is burning and our departure date is getting closer. Should I buy our flights now or wait for these fall deals? Any other advice you can offer is much appreciated.

    mahalo

    Darcy

    1. Hi Darcy,

About $750 to $1,000 right now largely depending on duration. Might come down if you wait, and would suggest doing so. Availability will not be an issue for your mid-week, off season dates.

      Aloha.

  9. Hi,

Going to Hawaii has be e n a desire of mine for years. I am 57 years old and I do intend to make this happen for me and my husband.

Could you please tell me the most affordable islands to visit and the be best time to get flight out of Houston Intercontinental?

I would be interested in any information you can give me.

    Thank you for your help.

    1. Hi Sharon.

The post you are commenting on has all of the most updated information specifically on the questions you’re asking. Regarding Houston, fares are mostly about $750 when it isn’t peak season. We do see rare sales from time to time, so suggest you stand by and we’ll definitely publish those when they’re out. Target price in the $500’s.

      Aloha.

  10. Hi! My fiance and I are wanting to take a late honeymoon/1st anniversary trip to Hawaii. We are unsure which island, but we have plently of time to decide on that. Because we are looking at going sometime in September of 2017. But are open to any other dates that provide a better deal. (Your opinions on cheaper dates and better islands would be greatly appreciated.) We can fly out of the followinf cities: Charleston(WV), Huntington(WV), Columbus(OH), Cincinnati(OH), Durham-Raleigh(NC), or Charlotte(NC). Any and all information you have on having a fun filled hawaiian vacation on a budget would be awesome! Thanks in advance for your advice!
    -Chelsea

    1. Hi Chelsea,

September is ideal in Hawaii in terms of everything including price, availability and weather. You won’t want to book very far in advance since it is off season. Start checking prices in the spring or summer. Charlotte has the best prices generally, in terms of possible departure airports.

      Aloha.
