Hi there!
We are planning a Vacation to Maui and Oahu in mid January 2016.
The airfare out of LAX doesn’t look too good right now as they are sitting at around $688.
However, airfare out of SAN is only $445, but this causes more of an inconvenience if we were to drive 2+ hours south for cheaper rates.
Is there a possibility that LAX prices will decline in the coming weeks? We are getting a bit anxious over here. Thank you so much!

Hi Russll,
There’s nothing that would indicate a change in LAX pricing coming at this time. When Virgin America announces LAX that will change, but we don’t know when that will be.
Aloha.

We are planning a trip for one week in late Feb. Our plan is to visit two islands, Oahu and Maui. Would this be the best choice for a week to see the best sights. It will be 3 adults who like adventure and hiking.
What is the best place to check for good priced condos on the beach? And last but not least, in both islands, what would be the preferred location to stay to be close to everything.
Thanks for any information.
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Becky.
We suggest the Hawaii Revealed guidebook series for such questions as our focus is on deals including those to get you here.
Aloha.

Going to Big Island on Feb 20 -27 , 2016 from San Francisco , Ca. Should we buy tickets now?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Marissa,
$600. It might get better. Probably no harm in waiting.
Aloha.

We are seriously considering a first time vacation to Hawaii from the UK (England) either middle to late January 2016 or even early February 2016 for a period of about three weeks.
We would like to visit Oahu (Waikiki Beach) for about one week and then fly on to Big Island for the remaining two weeks.
Would you recommend that we go for an ‘All in” multi centre type vacation with direct flights to Hawaii via a travel company in the UK or as I would prefer to do, fly to one of the cheaper airports outlined in your forum above, stay one or two nights (to break up the long journey from the UK) and then fly on to Hawaii and stay in hotels/villa’s etc that we have chosen and reserved ourselves?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Tony,
We aren’t very experienced in travel from Europe to Hawaii honestly, except personally, but comparing prices is certainly indicated. If you decide to break up the trip with a stopover (which we do ourselves), you might want to go further south – like to San Diego or the San Francisco bay area, since places further north like Seattle will be quite cold at that time of year.
Aloha.
Tony
Many thanks for your reply.
I hadn’t realized that Seattle and its surrounding areas would be a lot colder than the San Francisco or San Diego areas.

When is the best time to purchase airfare from Cleveland to Hawaii we are planning on going mid April? I currently see 925-1100 per ticket. There’s 4 of us.
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Andrea,
That could easily come down a few hundred if you wait. Prices could come down anytime between now and then really – it is all up to supply and demand.
Aloha.

Hey now, I’m planning on taking my girl to maui I’m march 23rd- 27th for her birthday….I know wow, here is my main question, which part of maui should we go (resort)? And should we rent a car or is it easy to get around?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Wil.
We suggest the Maui Revealed guide book or online forums. Remember that is spring break and everything will be more expensive.
Aloha.

We are planning a trip to Hawaii. June 21, 2016 to July 1.
San Jose(sjc) to kona June 21
Kona to Maui June 26
Maui to sjc July 1
We have been looking for flights and found some for 717 but since then the flights have gone up. Will they go back down?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Trang,
Hard to say as those are the most in demand dates. It is all about supply and demand, and for your dates there is more demand than supply.
Aloha.

We are looking to go to Hawaii around May 29th, 2016. How much are flights around that time? Also, any recommendations on where to stay in Oahu and Kauai?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Ashley,
We’ve given the best information we have within the post. Oahu and Kauai are extremely different. Oahu is largely city and Kauai is primarily rural. We’d suggest the Hawaii Revealed series of guidebooks as one source for that kind of information.
Aloha.
Nancy
I see you saying you can find round trip tickets from the Seatac in the $600 range. Where? I am seeing $400-$600 1 way with Alaska?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Nancy,
Sorry but it isn’t obvious what you are referring to, given that there are over 1800 comments on this post.
Aloha.

Looking to fly to Maui June 2-9 2016 from San Diego…prices still fairly high, do you think they will go down a bit as I see lots of seats left on flights…or should we buy now?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Lynn,
Per post: “Spring 2016 travel – airfare sales may be combined with winter 2015/2016 sales appearing fall 2015 and after. There will also be spring only sales appearing thereafter.”
Too early.

My husband and I are coming from the east going to Hawaii in early march 2016 for a week. We will be staying at a timeshare. I like to know how much should we expect to pay for airfare/food eating out a few nights.
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Deb,
Expected pricing is already within post. So starting in high $600’s.
Aloha.
Mike
I am looking to go to the big island in August from Seattle to Kona. We prefer to go earlier in August, but I see that tickets are $500 round trip after the 14th and $700 round trip anytime before the 14th. Any chance ticket prices will go down for earlier in August? I am looking at Alaska airlines since we can also use the companion fare (we have a family of 5 going).
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Mike,
Per post – highly unlikely.
Aloha.
Martin
Per your post “Step 1: What to Pay for Hawaii Vacation Deals.” Is it realistic to look for a $600 1 stop airline ticket round trip from Cincinnati Ohio in October 2016?
We are planning a trip mid October 2016 from Cincinnati Ohio. Per your Nov 1 post above am I correct that you would not buy Airline tickets now but wait until May June? Thanks.
Thank you.
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Martin,
More likely is high $600’s. Yes you will probably need to wait.
Aloha.
Martin
Thank you for the quick reply!
We will look for tickets in the 600s. from Cincinnati
For an October trip when does availability start to tighten up.?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Martin,
There won’t ever be a shortage of availability for October, and buying in summer is probably going to yield the best price.
Aloha.
Jeff
I’m trying to book travel for 5 from So Cal to Oahu in late September/early October 2016. How long will I need to wait to see fares below $400 per person? Current low is around $450. Thanks!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Jeff,
I think it is all in the post. Below $400? From Los Angeles? Could happen if Virgin America announces LA service. Otherwise probably not.
Aloha.
Eliza Nesmith
My sisters and I are going to Kona Hi to visit a niece and her family…can go anytime in March. Which is the best time? Looks like the first of the month is somewhat cheaper than the last part of the month.
thanks….
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Eliza,
Per post, for best pricing “Late February through mid-March, 2016.”
Aloha.
Stephannie Glover
Going to Maui Mar 30 – Apr 6, 2016, flying out of Wash DC area. What should we be looking to spend and how soon should we book?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Stephannie,
That is spring break, so about $1,000+ per person depending on the exact dates. Best to book now unless you want to wait for very last minute – which could well not happen.
Aloha.

Hi,
I’m planning on going to Kauai around May 5th or May 6th. What is the best time to purchase these tickets? also, how much should i expect to pay?

HI, I am looking to fly to HI (KOA) from Minneapolis for travel the first week of March, 2016. What should I be seeing for prices and when should I look to book? Thanks.
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Adam,
There are low to mid-$600 fares on Alaska Airlines, which is probably as good as you can hope for. If you snag that now it would be good. Otherwise maybe look again in early 2016.
Aloha.
Liz
Hi,
We are planing in going to Maui June 25th- July 2nd but I’m seeing that there more expensive now when do you think I should buy the airfare tickets we are leaving from lax
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Liz,
That’s about as expensive a week as we see flying to Hawaii. Suggest buying now.
Aloha.
Liz
So they’re not going to go down cause I’m we see then in sept it was $780 know they’re $880
Beat of Hawaii
Per post we suggest buying for peak periods as far in advance as possible. Otherwise at very last minute if there is any availability remaining (not likely).
Aloha.

I’m looking for the best time and best price to get married in Hawaii. We plan to pay for our 3 adult daughters also plus have the ceremony done in Hawaii also. So I guess we are looking for packaged deal flight/rooms and ceremony.

Hi Christina,
We don’t get involved in package deals. Having said that the post details your best dates for travel no matter how you book them.

Planning to go to Maui from San Diego in Mid May. What should I expect to pay for airfare?
Liz
To celebrate our 50th anniversary we would like to take our family to Maui and Honolulu in May 2016. Our son and daughter in law and four grandchildren are (US Army) stationed at Fort Irwin, CA. We would be flying from Newark, NJ. Looking for best way to fly round trip from CA but into one (OGG or HNL) and out of the other. Or, would it make more sense to just do a round trip hop once there? We’re planning on 10 days, 4 at Hale Koa (Military hotel) 3 at Aulani and 3 on Maui. Any ideas greatly appreciated.
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Liz,
Look for airfares much closer to your travel date (per information in post). Into one island and out of the other will mean only one inter-island hope. Those are both expensive and time consuming.
Aloha.
Beth
We have a large-ish blended family: 2 adults and 5 teenagers (ages 16-19). We are considering a last-minute “skipping christmas” getaway. You mention last-minute deals/specials…how do we find these and what timing is considering last-minute? We can get over to the islands on Alaska Air but the trip has make sense (i.e. a good deal) to pull this off.
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Beth,
What you are looking for isn’t entirely clear. Coming to Hawaii during Christmas/New Years? If so the best pricing as indicated in post are on the holidays and eves. Beyond that no deals will happen.
Aloha.
Thelma
I’m looking to fly in mid feb from Newark/ NYC and have been seeing flights in the mid 700s is that likely to lower?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Thelma,
Seems like it might go lower – we have pricing for this year at about $600. Hang on.
Aloha.
Sandy
I’m planning my Hawaiian birthday getaway for September 2016 for a large group and I would like to know the best place to look for total inclusive packages. I have AAA and they had a nice package for the flight and hotels, but is there somewhere else I need to check out before I commit? and is this a good time to start booking.
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Sandy,
Packages aren’t our thing. Maybe Costco?
Aloha.
Sandy
Is that a travel agency?
Yvette
We were planning to come Oct 2017 what is the temperature about at that time also is Southwest Airlines planning on coming to Hawaii Airport I heard that and just wanted to now if you knew anything Also should we look for tickets late next year or early 2017.Thanks
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Yvette,
Weather in October is ideal – no worries there. No one knows when or what Southwest will do. Per post, fall tickets are best priced during the preceding spring or summer.
Aloha.

Planning a trip 11/6-11/19 from Portland to oahu 11/6-11/8 THEN from oahu to kauai from 11/8-11/19 then back to portland. We were thinking of flying hawaiian when’s the best time to book?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Steph,
Probably is as good as it is going to get. 11/19 is getting tricky due to Thanksgiving. Outbound is cheap (~$200) but return is more (~$300). Inter island should be bought ASAP.
Aloha.
Amy
We have a trip planned to the islands next year, traveling with some friends from 5/28 through 6/11. Because of all of our work/school schedules and our lodging availability, we are locked into those dates. We’ve been able to care for our outbound flights with AA Advantage miles, but there were no options for return flights for us using mileage. So, we’re now looking to purchase 6 one-way return flights from LIH, 2 of those returning to Chicago and 4 returning to Dallas. Right now the average price per ticket is $500 to $550. Should we go ahead and purchase those or is it likely to change in the near future? If you don’t think we’ll see lower prices, we’ll go ahead and jump on these options. Please let me know if you guys think that’s a decent deal. Thanks!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Amy,
To Chicago there’s $396 on your dates (AS/AA), and $50 less the next day. To Dallas $371 on AS. Those are quite fair.
Aloha.
Cassie
We are planning our first trip to Hawaii, Feb 2016 around Valentines Day. Prices are $825 for the flights we want. Book now or should they drop? Best Airline? We live in Cinicinnati Ohio Area. Thank you!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Cassie,
That’s about right. Wouldn’t expect a drop but you never know. Also should not sell out. Best airline is subjective.
Aloha.
Christy
What about if the flights are almost full? Should we go ahead and purchase now ?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Christy,
Flights aren’t full for the mid-August and beyond period, and it isn’t likely that that will happen. That’s what makes it the low season. If you want to travel before mid-August, then it is best to book now.
Aloha

My adult children, my husband, and myself are wanting to go to Hawaii in 2016 between April and August. We are flexible with dates. When would be the cheapest airfare be?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Linda,
Everything we know in that regard is in the post.
Aloha.

Hello! Very useful page. My boyfriend and I are planning on flying to Kona in August, before the 22nd. So far the cheapest I found is $693 from the 6th-11th. I found it a little odd because it’s not late August , but if I looked later it got more expensive ($775 for the 13th-18th). We are looking to go for 5 days. 4 nights. When would you suggest booking our flight?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Christy,
Probably sometime next spring – depending on when airlines release lower fares on late summer/fall.
Aloha.
Angela
So glad I found your website. We are planning a cruise in mid June 2016. We will be flying from Charlotte. Right now flights are around $1160-1200. Do you think it will get any better or should we book? Thanks for all the good info on your site!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Angela,
Is the cruise company offering any special airfare pricing? Otherwise it may not improve as that is high season.
Aloha.
Chrissie Draper
I am trying to plan a family vacay from Edmonton, AB Canada. I am just wondering when the cheapest airfare rates are? We are looking between either October-February. I am also wondering what the weather is like during those months. We are renewing our vows, just want to make sure the weather is good.
Thanks
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Chrissie,
Fares from Edmonton and from BC are really good at the moment. About $400 RT. As for weather, it is generally good all year, although we have occasional storms/rainy periods, and it is certainly a bit cooler in winter. In February you might find days in the 70’s+ and nights in the high 50’s+. October/November is considerably warmer. It depends on where you are in the islands. Kona is hotter than most places for example.
Aloha.
Beth
Hi,
Your website has been so helpful while we are planning our first trip to Hawaii ! We live in central PA so will drive to Newark or jfk to fly to Honolulu. We are planning on May 6th – may 14th. From your post, am I correct in hoping there might be spring fares if we wait ? We will fly Hawaiian airlines because we have enough miles for one free ticket . I wasn’t sure how much their prices fluctuate or go on sale? Thanks so much for your time!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Beth,
Thanks for that. NYC might go down by as much as $200 if you wait.
Aloha.
Annie
Just a note Beth. It is a very long flight, so keep in mind that you can have a stopover if you feel you would need it.
Mindy
My sister in law is getting married in Lahaina November 3rd, 2016. When can we start looking for flights to get the best deals? The closest air port to us is DFW.
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Mindy,
Start looking next summer.

We are planning a trip to Honolulu (from Jacksonville, Fl) for July 2016. Is now a good time to book or is it a little too early?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Kimberly,
It probably won’t improve by waiting frankly. About $1,100 RT.
My husband and I will be traveling to Hawaii in mid to late May, 2016. We will be flying out of Newark, NJ. We have seen flights starting in the lows 800’s and are wondering if this is a good time to book our airline tickets.
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Rosemarie,
Per post, it is too early for spring purchases. We are seeing high $500’s for off season and those are very likely to happen again if you wait.
Aloha.

We can get over to the islands on Alaska Air but the trip has make sense (i.e. a good deal) to pull this off.
Hi Beth,
What you are looking for isn’t entirely clear. Coming to Hawaii during Christmas/New Years? If so the best pricing as indicated in post are on the holidays and eves. Beyond that no deals will happen.
Aloha.
I’m looking to fly in mid feb from Newark/ NYC and have been seeing flights in the mid 700s is that likely to lower?
Hi Thelma,
Seems like it might go lower – we have pricing for this year at about $600. Hang on.
Aloha.
I’m planning my Hawaiian birthday getaway for September 2016 for a large group and I would like to know the best place to look for total inclusive packages. I have AAA and they had a nice package for the flight and hotels, but is there somewhere else I need to check out before I commit? and is this a good time to start booking.
Hi Sandy,
Packages aren’t our thing. Maybe Costco?
Aloha.
Is that a travel agency?
We were planning to come Oct 2017 what is the temperature about at that time also is Southwest Airlines planning on coming to Hawaii Airport I heard that and just wanted to now if you knew anything Also should we look for tickets late next year or early 2017.Thanks
Hi Yvette,
Weather in October is ideal – no worries there.
Hi Steph,
Probably is as good as it is going to get. 11/19 is getting tricky due to Thanksgiving. Outbound is cheap (~$200) but return is more (~$300). Inter island should be bought ASAP.
Aloha.
Thanks!
Hi Amy,
To Chicago there’s $396 on your dates (AS/AA), and $50 less the next day. To Dallas $371 on AS. Those are quite fair.
Aloha.
We are planning our first trip to Hawaii, Feb 2016 around Valentines Day. Prices are $825 for the flights we want. Book now or should they drop? Best Airline? We live in Cinicinnati Ohio Area. Thank you!
Hi Cassie,
That’s about right. Wouldn’t expect a drop but you never know. Also should not sell out. Best airline is subjective.
Aloha.
What about if the flights are almost full? Should we go ahead and purchase now ?
Hi Christy,
Flights aren’t full for the mid-August and beyond period, and it isn’t likely that that will happen. That’s what makes it the low season. If you want to travel before mid-August, then it is best to book now.
Aloha
My adult children, my husband, and myself are wanting to go to Hawaii in 2016 between April and August. We are flexible with dates. When would be the cheapest airfare be?
Hi Linda,
Everything we know in that regard is in the post.
Aloha.
Hi Christy,
Probably sometime next spring – depending on when airlines release lower fares on late summer/fall.
Aloha.
So glad I found your website. We are planning a cruise in mid June 2016. We will be flying from Charlotte. Right now flights are around $1160-1200. Do you think it will get any better or should we book? Thanks for all the good info on your site!
Hi Angela,
Is the cruise company offering any special airfare pricing? Otherwise it may not improve as that is high season.
Aloha.
I am trying to plan a family vacay from Edmonton, AB Canada. I am just wondering when the cheapest airfare rates are? We are looking between either October-February. I am also wondering what the weather is like during those months. We are renewing our vows, just want to make sure the weather is good.
Thanks
Hi Chrissie,
Fares from Edmonton and from BC are really good at the moment. About $400 RT. As for weather, it is generally good all year, although we have occasional storms/rainy periods, and it is certainly a bit cooler in winter. In February you might find days in the 70’s+ and nights in the high 50’s+. October/November is considerably warmer. It depends on where you are in the islands. Kona is hotter than most places for example.
Aloha.
Hi,
Your website has been so helpful while we are planning our first trip to Hawaii !
Hi Beth,
Thanks for that. NYC might go down by as much as $200 if you wait.
Aloha.
Just a note Beth. It is a very long flight, so keep in mind that you can have a stopover if you feel you would need it.
My sister in law is getting married in Lahaina November 3rd, 2016. When can we start looking for flights to get the best deals? The closest air port to us is DFW.
Hi Mindy,
Start looking next summer.
Aloha.
We are planning a trip to Honolulu (from Jacksonville, Fl) for July 2016. Is now a good time to book or is it a little too early?
Hi Kimberly,
It probably won’t improve by waiting frankly. About $1,100 RT.
Aloha.
My husband and I will be traveling to Hawaii in mid to late May, 2016. We will be flying out of Newark, NJ. We have seen flights starting in the lows 800’s and are wondering if this is a good time to book our airline tickets.
Hi Rosemarie,
Per post, it is too early for spring purchases. We are seeing high $500’s for off season and those are very likely to happen again if you wait.
Aloha.
