  1. Aloha-

Thank you so much for writing this article. It is very insightful. I am planning a holiday getaway for New Year’s Eve – leaving out of NYC on Dec. 28th and returning on Jan. 2nd. As of now I can’t find any flight into available. When do you think is the best time to begin searching for deals.

    Best!
    Tiffany

    1. Hi Tiffany,

Thanks for your nice words. The airlines release inventory 330 days prior, so you’ll soon see your dates appear. There will not be any deals for your dates, and availability more of an issue as we expect Hawaii to be oversold for the holidays. It would be a good idea to buy as soon as inventory is released and secure accommodations as well. Expect to pay $1,000 to $1,200 round trip from NYC. Let us know how it goes.

      Aloha.

  2. For travel from Chicago to Maui in August, should we wait to see if fares drop, or book soon?

    Kind regards,
    Liz

  3. Hi, We’re looking to go to Hawaii the week of April 21st. What do you think is a good price for pay for the flight? Thanks

      1. Hi Paul,

CA$535 if you can leave on the 20th, otherwise about $35 more. There may not be enough traffic/competition out of Calgary to see the price drop further.

        Aloha.

  4. Thank you for you great tips. I am planning on my very first trip off the mainland ever. We want to come on April 9 -15, do you think airfare might go down a bit for me to buy my tickets and hotel for those dates around March ?

    1. Hi Nicole,

You’re in for a treat here in Hawaii!

Yes it is definitely possible for your dates. It is worth waiting here for another month or so. We should know more by then.

      Aloha

  5. I am plannin a trip to Oahu May 5-10th from Phoenix. Prices are $466. Do you see those prices dropping?

    1. Hi Pamela,

They might go down some, but probably not by a lot. Phoenix hasn’t seen much airfare sale action in some time.

      Aloha.

  6. Hello so January 2016 traveling with small children. What island do you recommend. We would like to rent a house and also be near shopping and excursions. We honeymooned in Maui but this will be our first family trip.

    1. Hi Vanessa,

Each island much to offer and doing that research is half the fun. Suggest you have a look at the Hawaii Revealed guidebook series plus just search for your question online and in the forums.

      Aloha.

  7. Just got an email from Hawaiian, they have started releasing sales on May dates. Im currently looking at SMF-HNL Memorial weekend through the following weekend. Hawaiian quote is $444 RT including taxes…I feel like I can get that for less then $400..thoughts?

  8. Hi there I wanted to check in to get your advice about booking airline tickets now for the last week in April going to Maui from Los Angeles. I did read that San Diego is a better option which I’m looking into. Wondered if fares may be better
if I wait considering low fuel costs or worse in your opinion?

    Thanks so much!!

    1. Hi Mary,

Fuel costs aren’t being factored into pricing by the airlines to any significant degree. Deals are just about competition. You understand the Los Angeles vs. San Diego issue. Having said that, it appears we’ll see better pricing for April (except the first week). You may need to wait a month or so for that to materialize.

      Aloha.

  9. I appreciate all your wonderful advice! When you say wait for post spring break prices……when does that typically happen?

    1. Hi Rebecca.

      Mahalo for your nice words.

The current and recent Hawaii airline deals are for travel ending mid March. That will be followed by the spring break high season which goes until early April. At any point the airlines will start deals for the low season that goes from April until early June.

      Aloha.

  10. My husband, daughter and I plan to travel to Oahu in mid or late July for about 10 days ( we are flexible on dates based on airfare ). We would be flying round trip from Spokane, WA. Right now, fares seem to be between $700 and $800 round trip per person. Will these rates go down at all. Last time we traveled we paid about $500 per person so these seem a little high. Thoughts?

    1. Hi Colleen.

Fares aren’t likely to come down for travel anytime in July. And if they do it would be quite last minute. Mid August is when fares drop to Hawaii.

      Aloha
