  1. My wife and I are planning to fly to Hawaii in Oct 2014. When would be the best time to start checking for airfare deals? We live in Nashville but could fly out of Atlanta.

    Thanks!

    1. Hi Don,

We could start to see better pricing for October generally starting in May. Unfortunately, at this point Nashville and Atlanta get very few deals to Hawaii.

      Aloha.

    2. My wife and i are also planning a trip to Hawaii in Oct of 2014. what have you typically seen rates go for from Denver, co?

  2. Hello,

I am taking my mom to Hawaii this summer (July 9-20). I’ll be flying out of the Dallas area, and she will be out of Atlanta. When would be the best time to lock in the cheapest fare? Would it be easier to fly to west coast and then book a deal from there?

    Thank you in advance!

    1. Hi Barry,

The airlines have it calculated so that there will be no advantage of flying to the east coast, and possible issues (like a missed flight). You are traveling in the peak season, so I would consider buying now, unless you are willing to wait and see what materializes at the last minute. Currently at $950 from Dallas to Honolulu, which is not a bad deal.

      Aloha.

  3. We are going to Maui with our 2 boys late July. Right now prices are about 1100-1300 from Denver. Is there any chance they’ll drop below 1000?

    1. Hi Melisa,

I see just under $950 using a combination of Hawaiian and Frontier. You’ll probably need to use an online travel agency since the cheapest is via multiple carriers.

      Aloha.

  4. Hi, my family plan to visit Oahu from either lax or San Diego, California on the last week of August 2014.
How much should we expect for the airfare and when should we buy them ? Thanks.

    1. Hi Kat.

San Diego has good Hawaii fares and your dates are ones when you can expect reasonable prices. I’d start watching now specifically for San Diego. But I think prices should be best when fall sales start sometime next summer.

      Aloha.

  5. Hi;

We are traveling to Maui June 5-14 from LAX. Do you have a suggestion on when might be the best time to book reasonable airfare? Rates now are $850-925. Thanks.

    1. Hi Terry,

Your dates are a bit close to summer to predict. If there are sales for your dates, they could happen starting in February or so.

      Aloha.

  6. We are going to Maui April 10-18, 2014. We can fly out of Oakland or San Jose, CA. The lowest airfare I’m seeing is about $606 on Hawaiian. Is this a good deal, or should we wait to see if prices go down after the new year?

    1. Hi Nicole,

Your dates are in Spring Break which doesn’t bode well for the likelihood of any deal. Therefore, the airlines will wait and see how booked they are and make any decision about discounting relatively last minute.

Mid-April and later departures should see airfare sales.

      Aloha.

  7. Hi,
We (me and my husband) would like to go to Maui. We are flexible with dates although I hear that in summer and fall the weather is best and the rates are the cheapest. I am not sure if it is the case. Anyway, we will be flying from Toronto, Ontario.
How much ahead of a planned date should I try to get a ticket to get the best deal? What is a good deal? I assume $600 and something?
    Thank you.

    1. Hi Alina,

Rates from Toronto aren’t cheap. You might watch for a sale from Air Canada or Westjet. Fares are generally CA$850, yes perhaps the 6’s would be considered a sale.

As for weather, it is mostly good all year round. The most raining times are November/December and March/April. A favorite time with fewer visitors is the fall.

      Aloha.

  8. It has been a lifetime dream of mine to travel to the beautiful islands of Hawaii.
We are planning and hoping to take our family of four (2 adults, 2 teens) to Oahu at the end of September 2014. We are open to flying any day and at any time and we would be flying out of Houston, Tx. When would you advise that I start lookin for the best airfares?

    1. Hi Janie.

Hawaii sales from Houston are infrequent. It would probably be best to start watching as soon as spring break is over. A good fare from Houston is starts with a 5 in front. Anything lower is unlikely. Right now those dates are in the $750 range.

      Aloha.

  9. We are hoping to take our family (3 adults, 3 youth) to Hawaii, the Big Island, in May. Right now I am seeing prices around $685 from Denver to Kona. Is that a good price or should I wait?

I have read some say wait till the new year. I have heard anything under $800 is a deal from Denver. So I am not sure if this is a “deal” or not.

    What do you think?

    1. Hi Kelly,

It is all about your threshold for the unknown. If you book now, you know you’re going, and if you wait a sale may or may not happen. Denver has had fare sales, but they aren’t very frequent or reliable. The price of $685 is fair.

      Aloha.

  10. Hi,
My family just booked our timeshare in Kauai for the last week in May. Right now airfares are running around $700. Is that the best I can get or should I wait? Also, we were considering staying on Oahu for a couple of extra days after our week, but I’m not sure how to work the flights. We can fly to Honolulu and then a flight over to Kauai same day. But coming back we want to fly to Honolulu and stay a couple of days to sight see before heading home. Is that doable or very expensive? Thanks.

    1. Hi Rhonda,

You didn’t say where you’re traveling from but I’ll assume California. If you can stand the suspense, then we’ll probably have Spring airfare sales pop up. Those could arise at any time, but most likely is between January and March. Many fares are one-way so you can fly into Kauai and then out of Oahu, thus only requiring one inter-island flight. Not only are inter-island flights expensive, they take up a lot of your precious vacation time. Hope that helps.

      Aloha.
