  1. We are looking to book a vacation there in December. I see that you say that “lowest priced dates will be December 24, 25, 31 and January 1” – is this in reference to hotel rooms or flights. I am trying to figure out the least expensive days to fly within the time frame of our kids’ Xmas break. Any info you can provide would be great.

    Thank you

    1. Hi Jed,

Good question. Those will be the least expensive dates to fly in both directions. Accommodations will not be cheaper on those dates.

      Aloha

  2. We are planning on going to Oahu the 5-15th of June with our family. We’re flying from Boise. Tickets are $618 right now. Do you think they are likely to go lower?

    Thanks in advance,
    Erik

  3. Watching prices closely they are $580 from SLC to OGG May 15-22…..is this a good price? Seems like it, but not sure what to compare to?

    Thanks!

    1. Hi Rebecca,

That’s fare. SLC has become quite competitive because of the disputes between Alaska and Delta. If you can play with your dates by even one day, you can reduce the price to $435.

      Aloha.

  4. My husband and I will be flying with our two kids from LAX to HNL thanksgiving week. Delta currently has a $734 RT airfare Nov 20-27 (Fri-Fri). Is this a reasonable fare for that time frame?
    Thank you!

  5. I’m traveling from LAX to OGG June 6-11. I have found a roundtrip non-stop flight for $456. Is this reasonable or should I wait a little longer?

  6. Hello
My husband and i were just married this month and are trying to plan our honeymoon. We are very flexible on the dates and times . we just want the best deal from portland oregon to maui hawaii. I have already been to maui and am in love. I want my husband to enjoy every moment there. I would prefer the weather
to be with as little rain as possible as we live in such a rainy place already. Nedd best price flight and hotel and where on the island to stay? I have stayed in lahinia and kaanapalii. Kannappali seemed to have more showers off and on which i didnt prefer. Im lost please help.
    Thanks
    Tammy

    1. Hi Tammy,

      Congratulations.

The best airfares are after spring break and before school gets out or after mid August. The details about this are already contained in this post.

As for where to stay, I suggest you get the Maui Revealed guidebook at either a library or online. That a good source for trip planning advice, which we tend to stay away from.

      Aloha.

  7. My wife and I are planning our first visit to Hawaii in September and are looking for suggestions for the best days to travel. We will be flying out of Chicago and staying on the main island for 7-10 days.

    Thank you so much!

    1. Hi Butch,

Generally weekdays have somewhat lower airfares.

Have a great time. Pick up the Hawaii Revealed guidebook series at your library or online for help in planning your trip.

      Aloha.

  8. Hi, my family is going to Oahu at the end of April. Right now, rates are pretty good from Seattle, $396. Do you think they will go any lower, or is it better to wait, in your opinion?

    1. Hi Donna,

The only way they will get better (and this isn’t likely), is if there is last minute availability a few days in advance.

      Aloha

  9. We’re planning on cruising Hawaii starting in Honolulu and would need airfare for 12/3 – 12/12 or 12/10 – 12/19. Should we wait on buying airfare tickets since they are about $1,000 round trip/person from Milwaukee?

    1. Hi Mike,

Your dates are difficult and the later dates are somewhat worse. You should probably buy sooner than later. For the earlier dates, the price is in the low $800’s which is fair. The later dates will cost about $100 more.

      Aloha.

  10. I will be traveling from MSO to OGG in either Oct or Nov for whale watching. It does not have to be Maui but I wanna see some whales. When do you think I will get better flight prices? I am not locked into a date.

    Thanks
    Gary

    1. Hi Gary,

Same as other comments we made today:

“Late Summer and Fall 2015 travel – look for Hawaii deals to start appearing by early Summer 2015.”

Maui is probably the best overall for whale watching. Be sure to get out on the water for that.

      Aloha
