  1. We live in Northern California and we travel to Hawaii quite a bit because my Husband is from Oahu and our family lives there. We never go in December because the cost is so expensive for a family of five. We thought this year we would try.. wow! Is flying one way more expensive when booking? For instance, we would like to fly into kona 12/18 and spend a little time there. Take an inner island flight to Oahu and fly out 1/1/16. Each way is about $550. Is that the best we will be able to do. The grandparents are going to be disappointed again if we don’t come!

  2. Hello. I want to travel from BWI to Hawaii in early July 2015 (looking at July 1-July 8, but can be a little flexible. I want to spend a day or 2 on Oahu and the remainder of time on Maui. Do you have suggestions for the best and/or cheapest flight pattern? What can I expect to pay in flights? After looking at current prices, I anticipate about $1000 for flights (total). Does this sound right? Any chance flights will decrease?

    1. Hi Kwan,

Yes $1,000 sounds right for that time frame. Changing dates a bit probably won’t make much of a difference. Try US Airways – $960 round trip into HNL and out of OGG. You’ll need to add a one way flight within Hawaii.

      Aloha.

  3. True the airfare from BOS to HNL in late Aug was $783 about three weeks ago. Since then it has been hovering around $868 and today it was at it highest $900. Will I ever see $783 if I wait? What should I do? I have a party of 7. Should I wait until early June to book and hope for a chance that airfare will drop for travel in late Aug.

    1. Hi Judy,

Has remained $783 as it is today on US Airways or Delta. Might be best to book to assure your vacation. It could come down but in that market isn’t likely.

      Aloha.

  4. I think asked and answered but cant seem to locate the response… Traveling SMF/OAK/SFO etc to HNL Weekend of memorial day (last wknd of May) ..flexible on exact date..thinking Sat to the following Sat. Prefer to pay a bit more and go out of Sac but if savings are $50 pp ill drive to Bay Area. Thoughts on what I can expect to pay? Can I expect less then $400 for SMF-HNL for that time period?

    1. Hi Milissa,

Low $400’s is about the best you can do from OAK or SJC or starting the low $500’s from SMF. You may need to leave one day earlier or later.

      Aloha.

  5. We are flying from SAN to HNL Sept 26-Oct 3rd. The best I found was $528 pp on Hawaiian and Alaska. in 2013 we were able to fly to maui for only $375 pp the same dates… Do you see the prices getting lower if i wait til June to purchase?

    1. Hi Maria,

“Late Summer and Fall 2015 travel – look for Hawaii deals to start appearing by early Summer 2015.” You’ll need to wait.

      Aloha.

  6. Is there a way to find a good deal for summer air travel to Hawaii? We are house sitting for friends while they return to the mainland, so we can’t choose a less expensive time of year to fly. We would be traveling around June 20 and returning around July 4. GRR to HNL. Thanks!

    1. Hi Kimberly.

In a word no. Unless you can travel in August, you’ll need to just pay up. The demand may well exceed supply starting mid-June so you might consider buying sooner than later. You can fly on Allegiant from LA or Las Vegas, but it isn’t that cheap and it has other significant drawbacks.

      Aloha.

  7. I am taking my family of 8 to Hawaii in July from DFW, The best price I see right now is $885. Is this a good price? (was $952 last week?. Will it typically get even lower? Don’t want to jump the gun, but didn’t know if this was a good deal considering the price is so different from last week. Thanks

    1. Hi Veronica,

You didn’t provide your destination or dates. The cheapest is $665 on Delta in late July, but you have to backtrack to Atlanta. Not very desirable. Otherwise, nonstops to Honolulu are at nearly $1,200. You would normally expect to pay $1,000+ for direct or good connections in July. Suggest buying sooner than later. If you want to travel in August, it should get easier.

      Aloha.

  8. We are going to Hawaii over Christmas (12/19-12/27). The prices have went up about $80 a ticket in the last couple of days. Do you think they will go back down or should we buy them before they go up any more. We are looking at about $850 at ticket SLC to HNL. This isn’t the cheapest, but we don’t want a long layover with four small children.

  9. What should I expect to pay from Denver to Hilo or Kona on the big island for September dates 2015?
    Thanks, Sandy

    1. Hi Sandy,

The best price right now is $654, on US Airways to Kona. Not available every day. Others are at $700+. That is a reasonable price.

      Aloha.

  10. Currently the airfare from Boston to HNL in late Aug is $883. Should I buy now or wait. I have 7 people in my party.
