  1. Aloha! We are planning to travel from LAX to OGG June 10 or 11 to the 16th. Prices are close to $600 now. Does it make sense to wait as late as April for the best price? What’s a fair price? And you mentioned that flying out of San Diego can be cheaper. I wonder if it would be wise to check flights from there too…

    1. Hi Jenice.

$600 is fair for your dates. Do check SAN but it would be best to buy quite soon.

      Aloha.

  2. We will be traveling to oahu from San Jose, California in mid July 2015 and was wondering if it’s to early to buy our tickets in February? If we wait a little bit will the price go down any? Thank you very much

    1. Hi Becca.

Rule of thumb is buy asap for July. But SJC had lots of competition and there could be deals albeit not likely. If you’re determined to fly suggest buying now.

      Aloha.

  3. Hello. I planned a trip from LAX to Lihue (kauai) for Fri May 29- Fri June 5 based on the lowest fairs of the early season of about $524. I have seen a steady increase of around $100 to $624 recently. Do you expect the fares to keep increasing or will they go down again in the next month? I live in San Diego so willing to fly out of SAN or LAX. Mahalo for your advice.

    1. Hi Tammy.

Leave on the 28th for $521 or about $60 more on the 29th. From SD and depending on airline. Probably won’t go up and might trend slightly lower.

      Aloha.

  4. Hi, my husband and I are going to Kauai in December over Christmas. The earliest we can leave from Philadelphia is Friday, December 18 and we want to stay for 2 weeks. Flight prices for varying dates around this time are anywhere from $1200 to $1500 to $1800 per person. Last year we went to the Big Island over Christmas and our tickets were under $1000 each and I booked it in early February. Do you think these flight prices to Kauai will go down? Or any suggestions on flight combos to try? We would prefer just 1 layover and we’re not opposed to staying the night somewhere and leaving for a direct flight to Kauai the next day. Any help or suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you!

    1. Hi Sarah.

If you want to wait until December 23 the price is $958 round trip on Alaska for a two week stay. The airlines may have underpriced the holidays last year and are trying to move heigher. If they have leftover inventory it might come down in the fall. But it could could just as easily sell out. Tough call as has always been the case at the holidays.

      Aloha

  5. I was looking at flights from Clt to KOA in mid May (12-19). Its hard to believe that in 5 hours prices jump $200 :-(. Is there a certain time of day, to really be looking at flights?

    1. Hi Zara.

We haven’t found any correlation between time of day or day of week in terms of Hawaii flight pricing.

      Aloha.

  6. Hello! My friend and are traveling alone for the first time to Hawaii the end of August. When would be the best time to purchase our flight?

    1. Hi Hannah,

“Late Summer and Fall 2015 travel – look for Hawaii deals to start appearing by early Summer 2015.”

      Aloha.

  7. Hi there,

We are looking into going to Oahu July 30 – Aug 7 this year. Right now fares are between $630-$700/pp. Should we book now or wait. When is a good time to book for a better fare price?

    1. Hi Micah,

Tough dates. Airlines aren’t planning to discount for those dates and the price is as expected. If there’s any price change, it is going to be last minute.

      Aloha.

  8. Aloha! Looking for a reasonable price for four tixs on September 10-17 leaving SDF to OGG. Will they go down towards summer?

    1. Hi Ginette,

Louisville doesn’t see deals to Hawaii. Having said that it would probably be best to wait until early summer for the best possible fall pricing.

      Aloha

  9. Family is looking to travel from Sacramento, SMF to HNL Aug 19 – Sept 2nd. Prices right now are stating $536 RT per person. A website by the name of a type of boat is stating they guess prices will rise next week. Debating on pull the trigger now or waiting. If all I can expect is to “MAYBE” save like $20 per ticket, it isnt worth the risk to me. Pls help 🙂

    Thanks!

    1. Hi Ty,

Best prices for those dates won’t be out for months. Probably May at the earliest. Kayak has no idea.

      Aloha.

    2. Thank you for the response. Historically do you know if they have dropped greatly during that time, or has it been minimally. You obviously have much more knowledge in this realm than i do 😉

      1. Hi Ty,

Historically doesn’t honestly mean anything. You might expect to see $100 difference by waiting.

        Aloha.
