  1. Looking to travel from Cleveland to Hawaii, April 26th thru May 8th, for $700 RT. Think pricing will go down? I hear this week is around “golden week” or time-frame regarding an in-flux of Japanese tourists…is there a material impact of travel on island?

    1. Hi Grant,

That price is about right and could vacillate either way. Golden Week could impact Oahu hotels, but probably not much more than that.

      Aloha.

  2. I’m looking to use frequent flier miles to get from Washington DC to Hawaii in the summer of 2016. Since I’ll be using Amex points, and hopefully Ive stashed enough away for a first class experience, which airline should I splurge on?

I’m assuming that I’ll have to book the summer dates as soon as they open up 11 months in advance?

I’d love any advice on pulling this off! Thank you.

    1. Hi Vee,

      Great plan!

We don’t really recommend one airline over another and domestic first class isn’t anything to rave about frankly. Having said that yes you’ll need to look ahead 330 days and even then it isn’t guaranteed to work.

Let us know how it goes.

      Aloha.l

  3. I am flying my family of five from IAH to HNL in August, most likely sometime around the 13th-22nd before school starts back up for the kids. Currently prices are around $900 a ticket (up about $200 from a month or two ago). Will prices drop a little come late spring or early summer or is it best to buy now?

    1. Hi Kelli,

It might be best to wait for your dates until as late as June or July. Airlines haven’t softened fares for the late summer/fall as much as we are anticipating. $700 would be more in line with our expectations.

      Aloha.

  4. Was waiting for the post spring break sales to come on for a flight from Vegas to Honolulu on May 10…however the prices only seem to have gone up.
Are prices likely to drop or only increase?
Currently we’re looking at a non-stop flight with Hawaiian Airlines for AUD $580 each.
    Thanks

    1. Hi Leah,

If you want to consider Allegiant Air, they have flights for $149 each way (but be aware they charge for everything). Otherwise yes prices are high, and in that market it isn’t clear whether or not they will drop.

      Aloha.

  5. Hi
Planning to visit Hawaii for the first time either the first or second week in November 2015! We are traveling from Rochester, NY– any tips on buying flights?? When would be the cheapest time to book our flights??

    Thanks for any advice!

    1. Hi Teresa,

I would be best to wait until mid-summer when prices for fall should be better set and somewhat lower. There really aren’t any great tips from Rochester. NYC will have the best deals, but that’s quite far.

      Aloha.

  6. My family of 4 is traveling from OAK to OGG in mid to late-September. Is $378 a good fare for those dates or do you suggest I wait until Summer to book in hopes that they may go down?

  7. We are looking to travel from St Louis to Maui on August 13 and return August 28 from Honolulu. Prices are around $750 rt. Does this sound reasonable or should we wait to book?

    1. Hi KW,

That price is reasonable. It might or might not come down, and if it does, that might not happen until sometime this summer.

      Aloha.

  8. I am planning a trip to Kauai Friday May 29 through Friday June 5th from LAX because a week ago it was the cheapest flight, also nonstop and also on Hawaiian Air which I like. I agree with Zara that it’s crazy flights have jumped $200 in the last week. I live in San Diego. Any idea what is happening with the price jump? Should I wait or buy now? Will the prices drop again or keep spiking? figures, I would book the hotel and wait on airfare only to have it go up…

    1. Hi Tammy. Not much room for prices to increase for your dates. More likely they will come down. But it isn’t possible to say definitively or if so when. Even the airlines don’t know yet. It is ever moving supply and demand.

      Aloha

  9. We are planning a trip from SLC to the big island (Kona) Airport, Srpt 5-12. Both Saturday departure and return. It looks like tickets are about $650-$700 now. Will the price be dropped in your opinion? Also the don’t appear to be many airlines leaving at 6am which is what we prefer from SLC. Do they ever add flights? We are about 7 months out. Thx!

    1. Hi Holly.

More flights is not likely. It would be best to wait and check prices in early summer for your dates. Prices may well decline somewhat.

      Aloha

  10. When should I buy tickets from ATL to HNL for Mid July to Early Aug dates r flexible -have plans for 7-24 thru 7-28.
