Hello from California! We plan on having a destination wedding in Maui in October 2017. Do you have any suggestions if flight prices will vary from week to week? I was hoping to get married on the weekend of Columbus Day but not sure if the airfare will be higher.
Joanne
Hi, I am traveling from Raleigh NC to Honolulu in the later part of June, 2017 for 10 days. I am looking to purchase a round trip ticket. Could you please tell me when would be the best time to make a purchase.
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Joanne,
As is indicated in post, best to buy now. Price is about $1,000.
Aloha.

Hello, I am hoping you can provide me with some information. I have never been to Hawaii and was looking into taking my family there for my 25th Anniversary. Can you please let me know when would be the cheapest time of year for airfares to make this trip? I would be coming from New York City. JFK Airport.
Thank you in advance for your help
Beat of Hawaii
Hi David,
Not sure what more you’re asking as that is what the post is all about. Be sure to reach each of the boxes. Fall and Spring are the least expensive times.
Aloha.

Hello! I am looking to travel to Maui sometime in July. MY dates are flexible and we would like to go for a week or so. We’re flying in from Los Angeles, California. When is the best time to go and what’s the best price? SO far I’ve found $784. Thank you so much!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Megan.
We’re seeing about $710 on multiple airlines in July. Not likely that will improve. Check on accommodations and car as those may be costly too.
Aloha.
Kerry
Hi from South Africa!
We are wanting to travel to Kona 23rd December – 7th January, from either Johannesburg or Chicago – two very different places I know! Should we wish to leave from Chicago, which airline would be the best to look at? And where in the U.S would be the cheapest place to fly from to get to Kona? We aren’t set on leaving from Chicago.
Thanks in advance 🙂
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Kerry,
Nice trip. You’re traveling at a very expensive time and ORD-KOA will run about $1,400 with a reasonable connection. Cheaper (though you have to get there) is the Bay Area – Oakland or San Jose, in the $800’s. But not really a good deal either. Try changing your outbound to 12/24 for some savings ($712 out of San Diego) perhaps. Short of changing your dates, there isn’t anything we can recommend unfortunately.
Aloha.

We’re looking to book flights to Maui from Ottawa, ON Canada in mid September 2017 (staying in Maui for approx. 2 weeks before return). When is the best time to book these flights?

Hi, we are planning our holidays in Hawaii Jan 23rd- Feb 7th. Cheapest flights from London to Honolulu are about £850 now. Do you think I can find cheaper deals later? Or it’s not worth waiting? Many thanks!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Vilius.
There is a fare of £600 RT on Westjet, for very near your days, with two stops (or £691 with 1 stop in Vancouver). Use their monthly view to find available dates. Hope that helps.
Aloha.

Hi, my husband and I will be traveling to Honolulu April 10 to April 22 on Premium Economy seating. I have only found flights $1300 traveling from CMH with one stop LAX. Didn’t know if this is a good price or will it go lower ? Have never been to Hawaii, so we are not sure of the normal prices. Thank you so much !!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Jeanne.
Yikes that’s a lot of money. Problem is mostly that Columbus doesn’t have a competitive market for Hawaii. Given that, price might come down but also might not. If it does, target is high $900’s. We see that for example in November, so it isn’t out of the question for April. Suggest waiting – perhaps until January. Hope that helps.
Aloha.
Kayla
I will be traveling to Honolulu from Minneapolis, May 11, 2017. When would be the best time to look for flights and what’s a good price? The cheapest I’ve found is over $900. Thanks in advance!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Kayla,
Currently $802 on Alaska with a fast connection. That’s a reasonable price. There could be a fare sale covering Minneapolis as we do see those a couple of times a year. But that’s uncertain, as is when it could happen. Since that is low season there isn’t any harm in just waiting and watching however. Hope that helps.
Aloha.

Hi! A friend of mine and I would like to go to Hawaii in May 2017. I’m going to read the articles you have but any advice while I’m doing that? We would be traveling from DC/MD/VA unless we go first visit some friends in NY (undecided but we have some time). We’ve never been but were planning it as a birthday getaway. Thinking of staying 7-10 days and trying to minimize cost where we can. Thank you in advance!!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi CJ.
New York will most likely be cheapest and direct, followed by DC. That’s a great time to visit – in terms of both cost and weather. Currently about $750 RT on Hawaiian nonstop to Honolulu.
Cynthia
Hi,
We are thinking of flying from Houston to Hawaii in August. Looking at the week of August 7th. We are open to days leaving and arriving. It will be 2 adults and child. Any suggestions and advice please? Thank you so much!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Cynthia.
For your late summer dates it might work better if you wait to buy. Currently however that week is running $1,000 to Honolulu, the following week drops by about $100 and the last week of the month by another $100.
Aloha.
Hollie
Aloha! We are traveling from San Diego to Oahu the week before Christmas. Fares keep going up everyday. Is there a price drop before Thanksgiving or should I buy before its too late. Thank you!! Love this site!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Hollie.
If you can travel on 12/18-12/26, there’s a $716 fare on Alaska which is somewhat more reasonable. Otherwise, you’ll need to do one-stop via LAX to save about $70 which doesn’t seem worth the hassle. Looks like it will be quite expensive otherwise, in the $800+ range. May or may not come down. If it does, that might occur around Thanksgiving.
Aloha.
Jennifer
Hi, we will be spending 3-15 June 2017 in Kauai, traveling out of Denver. When would be the best time to buy? Last year the same trip was $900 per ticket (we purchased in the October prior). This time tickets are over $1,100 per person. Thank you!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Jennifer.
Tough one since you’re return is stuck in high season and your departure is a Saturday. So we’d consider it a high season trip where you should purchase far in advance (like now). Prices are a bit higher and not likely to go down for your dates.
Aloha.
Jenny
I’m looking for an article on when it’s best to fly to Hawaii, and I see you reference to the “visual seven-step 2016/2017 guide to the Cheapest Time to Fly to Hawaii” but no article and no guide…please advise, thanks. Even better if you could email it to me 🙂

Hi, I’m traveling Apr 8 to 15, both Saturdays, roundtrip from Los Angeles to Honolulu. What’s the price range for a non-stop fare that I should look for? Currently, I see 900s to 1000s. Thanks.
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Jeanette.
$857 at the moment. Could improve, but may be last minute if it does. Premium for flying Saturday vs. mid week is about $250.
Aloha.

This site is awesome! I love getting Hawaii updates in my inbox…… It snowed at our house today so thinking about Hawaii makes me smile. I’m bringing the family March 25th for week in Maui. I already have lodging and have been watching airfare out of SLC, but it’s higher than I’ve ever seen it….over $800. Do you think it will get any cheaper? I know it’s Spring Break, just hoping to pay a little less.
Thanks for keeping us all updated and privy of Hawaii happenings!

Hello!
We are planning our honeymoon the first week of August 2017… Trying to evaluate when the best time to purchase plane tickets might be? We are going from Dallas to Kauai.
And is there a way to find out what the past years prices were in August?
Thanks!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Lauren,
As you can see from the post, August divides between high and low season. You can expect to pay about $1,000 in first half of month and about $200-$250 less for second half. Suggest waiting for either until spring since all of August has lower demand than say July, and availability should not be a problem.
Aloha.
Lauren
Hi there!
Starting to look for flights from NYC (any airport) to KOA for Feb ’17; preferably around the weekend of president’s day. Any advice on when to look for tickets and the best (and least expensive) airlines that might have them? Also what’s your preference on direct to Honolulu vs layover in LA/SanFran?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Lauren,
We tend to prefer the nonstops, since you get the bulk of it over all at once, but really it’s personal preference. Checking now, for reasonable durations (under 15 hours total) you’re looking at about $900+. It could get better – but it may not. Fall prices are running about the same. Lots of choice in airlines and where to stop en route.
Aloha.
Michelle
Hello! We are planning a trip to Kona mid-end of March from Seattle. I was wondering when the best time to buy tickets is? Alaska’s are still over $700 (we’ll be using a companion fare so need to fly Alaska:/)
Thank You So Much!!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Michelle,
Looks like there is increased demand both the second half of March and in early April for spring break on that route. It could well come down later. Perhaps January. With a target in the low to mid $500’s.
Aloha.
Aliyam
Hi there,
I’m planning to fly to Maui from New York, anytime in Nov or Dec of 2016, and wanted to ask when to by tickets, and about how much to expect to pay? I did see tickets as low as $535, a month ago or so, but missed the opportunity to buy it. Will it go down that much again? Thank you so much for your help!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Aliyam.
There should still be some more sales for fall, so stay tuned if you have the flexibility. Keep in mind that those prices were not on either of the nonstop flights. And, being realistic, budget about $700RT with one stop and a bit more for nonstop, and anything less will be money left to spend in Hawaii.
Aloha.
Audrey
Hello! We are looking to fly to Lihue in June from Oakland, SF, or Sacramento. When would be the best time to buy tickets? The best I’ve found so far is about $650 from Oakland. Will prices go down with new planes coming in service? Love your site! Thanks much!!!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Audrey.
Thank you! After early June it is high season. Traditional is $700+ and last year we did see some weakness wherein prices dropped to just under $600. That might happen again, or it might not. All supply and demand driven and too soon to know that. If you have heart set on airline/dates/times, then you’re probably only talking about $50 more if you buy now. New planes probably won’t come online until late summer or fall as far as we know.
Aloha.
Victoria B
I have always waited until September to book tickets to Hawaii for Thanksgiving weekend…traveling on Thanksgiving. In previous years, if I purchased tix in September, they were about $650 round trip. Now they are over $1,000! Will tickets lower before Thanksgiving??
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Victoria.
While it is possible there is no guarantee. Next window of opportunity should that happen is probably end of October. If airlines haven’t sold as much of the Thanksgiving inventory as they’d like, then prices will drift downward, though probably not a sale per se. If they have adequately sold the period, then prices will not go down and could either go up or there may be no availability.
Aloha.
DYLAN
Hello, really enjoy your website and all of the info. We are planning a trip to go to Maui from PDX 4/6-4/15or16. Ticket prices with a companion fair is $1450 non stop!!! its $577 there and $732 back for the full price ticket. We are used to going in Sept and only pay $800 for both with companion fair.
My question is, is this the normal amount for non stop airfare to Maui in April, I do realize it is during the Sprig break season.
Thank you
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Dylan,
Thank you. We can’t speak to the companion pricing but see the issue of the return date. Some options: If you’d rather fly from/to Seattle, there’s a huge savings – perhaps up to $500 for the same dates. Or if you can return later – starting the following Tuesday, it gets a whole lot better too. Availability appears quite limited for your dates so it may not improve without alternate routing or dates.
Aloha.
Theresa
Hi,
I am traveling with my husband to Honolulu on March 11th-18th, 2017. When do you suggest is a good time to purchase plane tickets? I’m traveling out of Philadelphia, PA. Most of the prices that I saw are over $1000, is this normal?
Thanks.
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Theresa.
Lower prices are available mid-week and with multiple, longer connections. Saturdays are typically the most expensive days to travel, as indicated. Still the price of about $1,200 with good connection does seem pretty high. It could improve, and probably can’t get worse if you prefer to wait.
Aloha.
Patty
Can you please tell me when to buy airfare? I don’t know when to purchase cheapest tickets from Honolulu to LAX for Oct 19, 2016 and return Oct 31, 2016 + or – 1 day is fine. Will it get below $400? or is $527 the cheapest?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Patty.
About $530 is likely. Nothing in the cards would indicate a lower price.
Aloha.

Good Morning!
Were looking to fly to the Big Island sometime late October early November. We’re planning on staying at family’s house so time is flexible. However we would like to get the best flight deals. We would be coming out of DFW and I’m sure having to stop to in San Francisco to change over, but what would the best days to fly and what do you see as a typical fare for two adults? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Jacqueline.
Best price late October is $621 on Delta, but it has 3 stops and 19 hours. More reasonable is $672 on a combination of United and American in 13 hours or $841 on United in 10 hours with 1 stop. Not sure these will improve.
Aloha.
Mark
Hithere! Looking to fly from PDX to Maui (OGG) June30/2017 to July 10. Seeing fares around $ 735 on Alaska. This seems to be rather steep? Any suggestions? CAnnotmove travel dates. Thanks so much for your reply!
Mahalo!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Mark.
That’s about right for that market. Past summer we saw some weakness – some dates down by about $100, but not sure that will happen again. Since dates are set, suggest buying.
Aloha.
Michelle
Hi!
We are planning a trip to Kona the end of March 2017. Through Alaska ticket prices are $720ish right now from Seattle, are these prices normal for March? I’ve never paid more than around $500 but we usually visit in Jan/Feb..
Thank You!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Michelle,
Yes as you can see from our post, that is in Spring Break, which is the reason for the higher price. Otherwise winter is running about $500 most days.
Aloha.
Kimberly
Very flexbile from June 30th- july 21 of 2016! The two of us are wanting to go to hawaii for 7 days! When should we fly + hotel + car for cheapestt rate?
Becky
Hi, I’m thinking of traveling to Honolulu April 3-April 7 from San Diego. Is that a good/cheap time to fly?
DJ
I would like to visit December 2016. I’m not really concerned about flight cost, but rather, hotel cost. Is there a general ‘cutoff’ date for lower prices before they jump for Christmas holiday?
Thanks!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi DJ.
Accommodations in Hawaii at the holidays are planned and often booked a full year in advance. Jump on that right away. Doubtful of any discounting except at undesirable locations. Also consider vacation rentals.
Aloha.
Diana
Hi!
I am interested in booking a flight for Jan. 16th to Jan. 23rd from Seattle to Honolulu. I searched up flights and the best prices I found were between $510-$530 roundtrip. Is this a good deal or should I wait till a specific time or day for prices to drop?
Thank you so much
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Diana.
Suggest you wait until the next time flights are at reduced prices, as they were last week. Target price on that route for those dates is under $450RT Today that is $508.
Aloha.
Josh
I was looking to book a flight just yesterday 9/15 but didn’t have my card with me thinking one day couldn’t make a huge difference in price change. Coming out of LAX to HNL it was 518.00 round trip, this morning it’s all around 650.00… did something happen or is this normal?!
Thanks
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Josh.
That’s normal. There was a fare sale last week and now that is largely over. Should be back again reasonably soon and we’ll be watching for and posting about that.
Aloha.
David
Thanks for this amazing website! I have a question on when to purchase our flights from SFO to HNL for a family of 4. Our dates are April 30-May 7. I checked today and the prices for HA was $494 RT. Do you expect the prices to drop or should I buy now.
Beat of Hawaii
Hi David.
Mahalo! $471 on Virgin and $494 on Hawaiian on your exact dates. If you have a bit of wiggle room, for example 5/1-5/9, then the price drops to $428 on Hawaiian. Your specific dates may not improve.
Aloha.
Brigit
Hi–which is less expensive–Fall Low Season or Spring Low Season? Thanks!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Bridgit.
It is generally about the same.
Aloha.

CAN YOU PLEASE INFORM ME WHEN WOULD BE THE BEST TIME TO PURCHASE TICKETS FOR MY FAMILY OF 3 ADULTS. WE ARE GOING TO KAUAI FROM DECEMBER 2-9, 2017. AT LEAST THIS IS WHEN THE HOUSE WE HAVE ON KAUAI IS RESERVED. I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHAT WOULD BE THE IDEAL TIME TO PURCHASE TICKETS PRICEWISE. WILL BE TRAVELING FROM DFW TO LIH(LIHUE) KAUAI AND ANY HELPFUL INFORMATION YOU WOULD HAVE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN PROVIDE.
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Chuck,
$821 is the price for 1-stop. Cheaper fares of up to about $200 around the same dates require more stops and up to 8+ hours more transit time each way. The $800 fare may or may not improve. It is fair. There is probably no harm in waiting because demand will be low. Can’t say how long you may need to wait, but keep watching with a target of low $700’s until up to 3-4 weeks in advance.
Aloha.
Daisy
Hi there! Flying from SFO to Oahu roundtrip for $494 from Dec 9-16, is that a great deal?
Also, would you suggest staying on this island the whole week? is that too much time there? Sorry, first timer to hawaii.. Trying to get the best deal and time out of Hawaii.
Thank you so much!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Daisy.
Not great but rather an okay fare. A day earlier on both ways drops it to $432. Your days may or may not improve because Fridays are usually higher. You can stay on any island for a week or a month or whatever period and never see or experience everything. Moreover, changing islands means spending 1/2 day or longer with transportation between getting to and from airports, security, waiting and flying. With only one week, that’s hard to recommend. What about making this trip all about Oahu and then planning a return visit soon to one of the other islands? Enjoy whatever you decide to do. Don’t forget to pick up a copy of Oahu Revealed, the definitive guidebook.
Aloha.

Hello
I am trying to find great deal on flights for a family of seven out of SJC to HNL on Feb,17 to Feb,22. So far I found flights for $520 is that a good deal or should I wait to see if there anything cheaper ? please let me know if you know of a better deal thank you very much.
Frank G
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Frank.
We’re seeing $565 nonstop as of this morning. If you can go and return one day earlier then $447 to $508. Might get a bit better if you wait and no rush on that route. Target mid to high $400’s RT.
Aloha.
Craig
Thanks for a great site and wonderful resources! We’re wanting to take a family trip (4 kids, 2 adults) to Kauai in Aug 2017. When would be the best time to book and what price range should I expect. Flying out of SLC.
Thanks!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Craig.
Thank you. If you’re coming before mid-August you’re in high season and that is best purchased as soon as available (330 days in advance). If you’re coming in the 2nd half of the month, however, it is worth waiting until three to six months ahead as those prices are more likely to vary and have downward possibilities. Expect to pay $700’s for early August and up to $200 less later in August.
Aloha.

Hello! We are planning a trip to Kona mid-end of March from Seattle. I was wondering when the best time to buy tickets is? Alaska’s are still over $700 (we’ll be using a companion fare so need to fly Alaska:/)
Thank You So Much!!
Hi Michelle,
Looks like there is increased demand both the second half of March and in early April for spring break on that route. It could well come down later. Perhaps January. With a target in the low to mid $500’s.
Aloha.
Hi there,
I’m planning to fly to Maui from New York, anytime in Nov or Dec of 2016, and wanted to ask when to by tickets, and about how much to expect to pay? I did see tickets as low as $535, a month ago or so, but missed the opportunity to buy it. Will it go down that much again? Thank you so much for your help!
Hi Aliyam.
There should still be some more sales for fall, so stay tuned if you have the flexibility. Keep in mind that those prices were not on either of the nonstop flights. And, being realistic, budget about $700RT with one stop and a bit more for nonstop, and anything less will be money left to spend in Hawaii.
Aloha.
Hello! We are looking to fly to Lihue in June from Oakland, SF, or Sacramento. When would be the best time to buy tickets? The best I’ve found so far is about $650 from Oakland. Will prices go down with new planes coming in service? Love your site! Thanks much!!!
Hi Audrey.
Aloha.
I have always waited until September to book tickets to Hawaii for Thanksgiving weekend…traveling on Thanksgiving. In previous years, if I purchased tix in September, they were about $650 round trip. Now they are over $1,000! Will tickets lower before Thanksgiving??
Hi Victoria.
While it is possible there is no guarantee. Next window of opportunity should that happen is probably end of October. If airlines haven’t sold as much of the Thanksgiving inventory as they’d like, then prices will drift downward, though probably not a sale per se. If they have adequately sold the period, then prices will not go down and could either go up or there may be no availability.
Aloha.
Thank you
Hi Dylan,
Aloha.
Hi,
I am traveling with my husband to Honolulu on March 11th-18th, 2017. When do you suggest is a good time to purchase plane tickets? I’m traveling out of Philadelphia, PA. Most of the prices that I saw are over $1000, is this normal?
Thanks.
Hi Theresa.
Lower prices are available mid-week and with multiple, longer connections. Saturdays are typically the most expensive days to travel, as indicated. Still the price of about $1,200 with good connection does seem pretty high. It could improve, and probably can’t get worse if you prefer to wait.
Aloha.
Can you please tell me when to buy airfare? I don’t know when to purchase cheapest tickets from Honolulu to LAX for Oct 19, 2016 and return Oct 31, 2016 + or – 1 day is fine. Will it get below $400? or is $527 the cheapest?
Hi Jacqueline.
Best price late October is $621 on Delta, but it has 3 stops and 19 hours. More reasonable is $672 on a combination of United and American in 13 hours or $841 on United in 10 hours with 1 stop. Not sure these will improve.
Aloha.
Hithere! Looking to fly from PDX to Maui (OGG) June30/2017 to July 10. Seeing fares around $ 735 on Alaska. This seems to be rather steep? Any suggestions? CAnnotmove travel dates. Thanks so much for your reply!
Mahalo!
Hi Mark.
That’s about right for that market. Past summer we saw some weakness – some dates down by about $100, but not sure that will happen again. Since dates are set, suggest buying.
Aloha.
Hi!
We are planning a trip to Kona the end of March 2017. Through Alaska ticket prices are $720ish right now from Seattle, are these prices normal for March? I’ve never paid more than around $500 but we usually visit in Jan/Feb..
Thank You!
Hi Michelle,
Yes as you can see from our post, that is in Spring Break, which is the reason for the higher price. Otherwise winter is running about $500 most days.
Aloha.
Very flexbile from June 30th- july 21 of 2016! The two of us are wanting to go to hawaii for 7 days! When should we fly + hotel + car for cheapestt rate?
Hi, I’m thinking of traveling to Honolulu April 3-April 7 from San Diego. Is that a good/cheap time to fly?
I would like to visit December 2016. I’m not really concerned about flight cost, but rather, hotel cost. Is there a general ‘cutoff’ date for lower prices before they jump for Christmas holiday?
Thanks!
Hi DJ.
Accommodations in Hawaii at the holidays are planned and often booked a full year in advance. Jump on that right away. Doubtful of any discounting except at undesirable locations. Also consider vacation rentals.
Aloha.
Hi!
I am interested in booking a flight for Jan. 16th to Jan. 23rd from Seattle to Honolulu. I searched up flights and the best prices I found were between $510-$530 roundtrip. Is this a good deal or should I wait till a specific time or day for prices to drop?
Thank you so much
Hi Diana.
Suggest you wait until the next time flights are at reduced prices, as they were last week. Target price on that route for those dates is under $450RT Today that is $508.
Aloha.
I was looking to book a flight just yesterday 9/15 but didn’t have my card with me thinking one day couldn’t make a huge difference in price change. Coming out of LAX to HNL it was 518.00 round trip, this morning it’s all around 650.00… did something happen or is this normal?!
Thanks
Hi Josh.
That’s normal. There was a fare sale last week and now that is largely over. Should be back again reasonably soon and we’ll be watching for and posting about that.
Aloha.
Thanks for this amazing website! I have a question on when to purchase our flights from SFO to HNL for a family of 4. Our dates are April 30-May 7. I checked today and the prices for HA was $494 RT. Do you expect the prices to drop or should I buy now.
Hi David.
Mahalo! $471 on Virgin and $494 on Hawaiian on your exact dates. If you have a bit of wiggle room, for example 5/1-5/9, then the price drops to $428 on Hawaiian. Your specific dates may not improve.
Aloha.
Hi–which is less expensive–Fall Low Season or Spring Low Season? Thanks!
Hi Chuck,
$821 is the price for 1-stop.
Aloha.
Frank G
Hi Frank.
We’re seeing $565 nonstop as of this morning. If you can go and return one day earlier then $447 to $508. Might get a bit better if you wait and no rush on that route. Target mid to high $400’s RT.
Aloha.
Thanks for a great site and wonderful resources! We’re wanting to take a family trip (4 kids, 2 adults) to Kauai in Aug 2017. When would be the best time to book and what price range should I expect. Flying out of SLC.
Thanks!
Hi Craig.
Aloha.
