  1. Hi – planning a trip from NY , leave 8/12 to the big island and the Kauai, returning on 8/23. Do you think flight prices will drop from where they currently are?

    1. Hi Carl,

It is possible but definitely not certain. Prices have already eased for your dates compared with earlier in August or July. If you’re determined to fly you might just buy now. If you can handle the wait and uncertainty, there is potential for a $100-$200 drop.

      Aloha.

  2. Aloha! My husband and I are hoping to travel from Vancouver Canada to Honolulu for our anniversary in mid November we would like to wait until seat prices go down a bit they are currently 1200 return for 2 ppl. I have seen them as low as 855 in June would we be wise to wait until July to book for November? Should we book our flight before accommodation? I have never booked flights before your help is greatly appreciated, Mahalo!

    1. Hi Leah,

Sounds like a good plan. Book accommodations that are changeable now and book airfare when we start to see deals. Perhaps July – that’s hard to say of course.

      Aloha.

  3. “Joanna” had a good point that flights with US Airways are either “sold out” or “not available”. We are planning to go and surprise our daughter in October 2014 and afraid we may not go due to the flight status and already flights are limited. Would happen to know if there may be some flights opening up later?

    1. Hi Agnes and Joanna,

We are not aware of what the issue is with the US Air flights in question.

      Aloha.

  4. Hello! Our family is flying from Seattle to Maui, leaving November 20 and returning November 28. I’ve heard that for holiday travel it’s best to purchase as far in advance as possible. Just wanted to check your opinion. thank you!

  5. As I posted previously, our family will be flying from Phoenix to Hawaii over Christmas. I have been checking out the US Airways site, and it seems strange that since the dates opened up, ALL the flights to and from Hawaii are showing as either “sold out” or “not available,” even though their flights crop up on Kayak and Priceline. Any idea why that happens? And will these flights suddenly become available later this year? Thanks!

  6. My Family and I are planning to travel to Honolulu. We need to attend a wedding on December 13, 2014. We are from Portland Oregon. When is the best time to buy airline tickets?

    1. Hi Crystal,

For your dates and based on reasonable current pricing, suggest buying now. Your return will be in high season.

      Aloha.

  7. I recommend applying for a Hawaiian Airlines credit card. You can get a lot of bonus miles as an introductory offer, and Hawaiian Airlines usually charges the same amount of miles from the east coast as they do from the west coast.
My wife and I are flying to Maui from Oakland this spring, and we aren’t paying anything for airfare. Well, $10, I think. 🙂

  8. Hi. I’m looking to fly from any of the three NYC airports to LIH, departing July 23 and returning July 30. Right now, I’m seeing r.t. fares for around $1,100. Do you think the fares will be any lower if I wait longer to purchase?

    1. Hi Bryan,

It is doubtful. If there is any reduction is will come near the last minute, so if you are trying to plan a vacation, that will be difficult.

      Aloha.

    1. Hi Dawn,

Same answer we gave Bryan. Doubtful and if it does happen – only near the last minute. If you’re okay with it not working out, then wait; otherwise suggest booking as indicated (and not looking back).

      Aloha.
