  1. Found tix for my husband and I from Chicago to Hawaii (main) for about $903 roundtrip non-stop. Is that about right. We will be going April 15-April 22?
    thanks

    1. Hi J.

If you’re talking about Honolulu, flights are from $719 for your exact dates. If you vary by a day or so either way, you can get down to the $600’s.

      Aloha.

  2. Hello and happy new year!

My fiancée and I considering getting married in Hawaii. We’d be traveling from Vancouver, BC. The time slot would be mid-late August. We are looking for a very small and private wedding with family only. What island/place do you recommend and what would be the cost (approximately) for airfare?

    Thank you

    1. Hi Stacey,

Any island would be great for a Hawaii wedding so suggest you do research. You might start with what we use, Hawaii Revealed..

Vancouver airfares have been very competitive recently. If that remains the case in August, prices could be back in the $300’s.

      Aloha.

  3. We are going to a wedding Aug. 6th 2016 to Maui. Flights are running $727.00 from Las Vegas and from Lax nonstop $764.00. Should we book now or wait for lower airfare.
Or will prices go up? Approx. dates Aug 4th thru Aug 11th. Please help This is for 2 of our family members.

    Thank you

    1. Hi Sherry,

That’s towards the end of the high summer season. So prices and availability will “probably” remain the same. It isn’t likely that they will go down and if they did it would only be at the very last minute.

      Aloha.

  4. We are planning a trip from LAX to OGG for June 5th-12th – when would be the cheapest time to buy tickets? Thanks!

    1. Hi Matt and Jessy,

Return is in very high season so price will never come down. Departure probably will if you wait. Tough call given your dates. $717.

      Aloha.

  5. My family is planning on a trip to Maui the week of August 8, 2016. Is it too soon to book the trip, or should I wait to see if prices will go down?

    1. Hi Letty,

As you can see your departure is in high season and prices will not go down. Depending on your return date that leg could be less if you wait. Gut call is to wait until spring to summer when we see late summer prices come out.

      Aloha.

  6. Family of 5 traveling from Salt Lake City to Maui in mid July We got tickets in December for $517 on United. (Yea–lousy flight but I was happy with the price.) Now we are trying to find tickets for 2 family members from St. Louis, to Maui, same dates. They are not yet sure of the exact date they can travel so we can’t book quite yet. Better to have them fly St Louis to Maui (with a couple of stops) or St. Louis to SLC for a day, then to Maui and back to SLC and to St Louis? (Two separate flights?)

    1. Hi Diana,

Separate flights unless there is true stopover have issues like inability to inter-line baggage which can result in a second trip through security. Also what if the first flight is late? $1,000 from STL to OGG.

      Aloha.

  7. Hi,
    Awesome blog.
My new bride and I planning on coming to Hawaii for our Honeymoon next month Mid Feb. We have yet to book anything and are a little scared by how expensive we’re seeing everything. What are the best tips for keeping costs down as far as accomodation, car rentals (we want the freedom to explore) and hopefully getting to Maui, Kauai, The Big Island.
    Thanks!

    1. Hi Ryan,

Hawaii (and frankly any good destination) isn’t a bargain in 2016 the way it was a number of years ago. Having said that you can do it economically if you plan carefully. Vacation rentals are always a good idea, or hotels with kitchens since that really helps with food costs. Car rentals should be somewhat reasonable in mid February so just search around. As for where to go, we use and suggest Hawaii Revealed.

      Aloha.

  8. Hi,

Our family (4) is flying from Portland, OR, to Lihue, Kauai, last week of September, 2016, and returning early October. Should we book now, or, is it best to wait until we get closer to our departure date (i.e., book our flight after labor day)? Thanks!

    1. Hi Lon,

Best to wait, per post. Can’t say labor day is the time, we won’t know until it happens. If you’d like our help, please get our free email updates and we’ll let you know as soon as anything is released.

      Aloha.

  9. Your site and blog are so helpful – we greatly appreciate your time and effort!

Reading through some posts, I’m correct in expecting another drop like the current one to the mid $650 range for travel from New York to Oahu in early May ?

    Thanks again!

    1. Thanks so much for the nice words Beth. Much appreciated.

Yes NYC remains very competitive so it is likely and is worth waiting for.

      Aloha.

  10. My fiancee and I are planning on honeymooning in Hawaii and would like to know what you suggest for a destination. Also, what are the rates looking like from Detroit in March?

    1. Hi Ryan,

Any place in Hawaii is great for a honeymoon. For destination planning we use and suggest the excellent Hawaii guidebooks from Hawaii Revealed.

There are some $568 mid-March round trips available today on Alaska Airlines. If you’re ready that’s a great price!

      Aloha.
