We are flying to Maui end of February. Holding off booking airfare hoping southwest will be flying soon. Bad idea?

So looking forward to Southwest Hawaii flights. I was just on a Southwest flight last week and talked to a pilot about it and he said there’s no way it will happen before 2019.
As for Hawaiian Airlines, Las Vegas is a great starting point to the islands because many cities offer nonstop flights to Las Vegas which makes it only a 2-leg trip to Hawaii. That’s a major plus for us east coasters. Aloha!

Being personal friends with SW pilots, we can say this – they don’t always know.

Yes it is long overdue that Hawaiian Airlines brings back direct flights from Las Vegas to Maui. Las Vegas is truely the 9th island. There are so many Hawaiians living in Las Vegas and the flights are always packed. When they had the direct flights to Maui several years ago those flights were also full. Hawaiian airlines has many loyal customers here in Las Vegas that will truely appreciate having more flights and more options to fly directly to the Maui and possibly other Hawaiian islands in the future. This will also give them the edge over the other airlines as well as Southwest if and when they go into direct completion for Las Vegas customers.
I hope they use one of those A330 aircraft for Phoenix. The 767 on that route is long in the tooth. And it would take two narrow body jets to replace the 767. Phoenix needs some respect

Our family is Flying from Indianapolis to Oahu Dec. 14-22. My question regards Southwest anticipated flight service to Hawaii. When it rolls out, will service be offered departing California airports only? That’s what I gather from reading your article(s) in the newsletter..which is a great newsletter by the way! Am I correct in assuming, that at least in the early stages, Southwest will not be offering flights to Hawaii from Indiana?

I noticed in previous posts that there will be low RT fares through May. I am hoping to fly from SLC to HNL then HNL to Pago Pago. Most of the deals you have listed don’t go past March. Do you project they may go into May at some point?
