  1. Hi

    This is a useful website

    I have a question

From Kauai to honolulu, how much is the airfare

  2. The Hubby and I plan a 2-3 week visit to Hawaii (Kauai, Maui, Hawaii, and Oahu) in late June-mid-July. Is there an advantage or disadvantage regarding where we arrive and depart the Islands? Is it better to have one arrival/departure locations? If so, which airport? Is it necessary to book inter-island flights a long time in advance?
    Thanks for your help. Brenda

    1. Hi Brenda.

No advantage in particular to where to arrive/depart from. Better to arrive one and depart another when doing multi-island. And yes critical to book inter-island immediately after booking mainland flights.

      Aloha.

  3. Several years ago we were invited to go with some friends to Kauai. I fell in love with the people and the island. So I want to go back. What is best(least costly) time to fly from Shreveport, LA or from Dallas. Thank you for input.

  4. We are planning a family Kauai trip at Christmas 2018 – I know, the worst time for decent fares but the only time we can get everyone together! Four would fly from Portland and the other four from Sacramento, San Jose, SFO or Oakland – all doable. Is there any truth that flying on Dec, 26th is cheaper than, say, the 24th? Our house rental is from Dec. 24th through Jan 3rd.
Also, is there a “best month” to book flights?
    ANY assistance is greatly appreciated!
    Susan

    1. Hi Susan.

Best to book everything for a Christmas vacation as far in advance as possible. For air that is coming right up. And that includes car rental. Usually holidays themselves are cheapest and sometimes the eves of the holidays.

      Aloha.

  5. I fly to Hawaii on vacation each year out of Chicago O’hare.
Please shed some light on why New York has fare sales to Hawaii, along with west coast sales, but not Chicago or Midwest cities?
    Thanks,
    Jim

    1. Hi Jim.

Fare sales from NYC have happened after Hawaiian started that route. They’re less extreme now, but still it’s a tussle largely between UA and HA, plus occasionally DL and AA. Chicago has only one direct flight to Hawaii, that being on United. And yikes that’s expensive! If Hawaiian starts service from ORD, then it is almost guaranteed that protracted deals from Chicago will occur. That route has been rumored to be in the works for years, by the way.

      Aloha.

  6. Can you please offer a good target airfare price for a June trip departing from LAX or San Diego to HNL and returning from Lihue? Departure and return days can be weekdays as those often appear cheaper. I’m wondering if Southwest’s initial sale may bring other airine’s prices down, even for the busy summer. Mahalo for the great work of late and any assistance you can offer!

    1. Hi Jeff.

Thanks. In reverse order, it is doubtful that Southwest’s entry will impact summer prices. Perhaps winter prices though. It is Hawaiian’s new planes and upcoming routes that are creating most of the recent competitive pressures.

We aren’t going to be able to pin this down exactly. But it depends big time on whether you’re talking June 1 or June 20. One is low season and one is high. We’ll assume you’re talking high season and say that a good fare would be in the high $500’s to low $600’s with few if any connection, which is a solid $100 less than normal. There’s a fare for SAN-HNL on 6/13 returning LIH-SAN on 6/20 for $585. Outbound on Alaska and return on United, which means you’ll have to book through an OTA.

  7. I love your website and read it every time I see it in my inbox. Thank you! Just writing to let you know that moments after I got this email I checked Hawaiian Airlines for one way tickets from NYC to Kauai on the week of Feb. 19. According to the site, though, the lowest price available between the 19th and 22nd is $391.89 for a flight on 2/22. Ironically, there is a flight leaving 2/23 (after the window of the sale) that is $313.70, so cheaper than any of the dates that are supposed to be covered by the sale. Is there some other way to check for flights at the sale prices you mention? Thanks!

    1. Hi Beth.

First, thank you. Second, sorry the airfare could no longer be found. By way of a bit of explanation, the airlines typically change fares five times each week day and twice each weekend day, so it is truly a moving target. It isn’t unusual for us to be posting fares and have them change before we can hit publish. That makes it frustrating for us, because it is a lot of work checking all of this, and for you. But looking just now, for the week of 2/19, the best fare we find is $705 RT from 2/23 to 2/28. Also, there is a $595 RT fare on Delta if that works – many days around then. And funny because those weren’t there this morning. 🙂

      Aloha.

  8. Would love to go to Maui in July 2018. Looking for discounted flights for that time between the July 10-August 1, 2018. Will keep my fingers crossed that something comes up! Please keep the deals coming as we love to read them and remain hopeful!

    Mahalo

    Tianne

    1. Hi Tianne.

That is definitely not a good time to be looking for deals. But if it going to happy in any year, this would be the one. Otherwise, there are fares of just over $550 in July from SFO to OGG with one stop and just over $600 nonstop. That is substantially lower than normal and a very good price for July. It comes down to how determined you are to visit Hawaii this summer. We’d give 35% odds of anything better coming up for your dates.

      Aloha.
