  1. Keep me informed on how things are going after Honolulu opens for tourists on August 1
    Thank you

  2. We have plans to visit Hawaii in August! Right now it’s taking 5-7!days to get results back I hope that will work for testing results . I’ll keep checking and hopefully the testing will not take that much time the closer we get! I do not want to have to cancel my trip!!

  3. first of all, I have not found a place where you can get tested without having symptoms and no guarantee you can get results within 72 hours of your flight if you could be tested. This is not possible to comply with.. I would gladly do whatever it takes to enter hawaii again, but these requirements are not feasible.. did the governor actually research what he requirements were and that they could actually be done !

  4. Hey, om I’m all for testing. We are have a flight scheduled for August 3rd 2020. Here’s where it gets tricky. So we have Kaiser and they said it takes up to 2 days for results.

Question: does the paper have to be printed out? Or can we go on kp.org and show our results that way.

Question: since our flight is on Monday testing would need to be done Friday, correct?

CVS even stated 2-3 days , so can we test on Thursday?

  5. Our family loves Hawaii, but we will not be returning any time soon. Not because of the restrictions, or because we don’t feel welcome, but simply because air travel is not safe right now. Moreover, we live in an area where cases are spiking, and we do not want to risk spreading the virus to people who live in Hawaii. Instead, we’ve been making donations to non-profit organizations on the islands, buying gift certificates for future use, and listening to lots of Hawaiian slack key guitar music at home. Now is not that time to for unnecessary air travel, and we should all be focusing on getting this virus under control so we can enjoy the full beauty of life and Hawaii in particular later on.

  6. [Edited] I think most with any common sense will do florida keys or carribean or other states also with less restrictions and cheaper and people are happy if they visit.

  7. Have idge pay for testing and masks. Also compensate travelers that didnt get their money back. And free vacation vouchers fir when hawaii is back to the original normal

  8. It’s nice to know the Governor made a decision to open Aug 1. But I still cannot feel comfortable making hotel and air reservations Having done that twice this year and having to cancel both times. Today I’m making plans for vacation to Key West in August. My heart goes out to the folks whose work involves tourism in Hawaii. I hope they are all back to work soon. I will hope next year to visit again if the Governor has his plan finalized to reopen. I’m just not counting on that yet.

  9. I have some bad news for the people of Hawaii. No one will be coming for a significant period of time. I’ve already cancelled my Mid-August trip for various reasons. The cost of visiting Hawaii is high so why take a change on losing your full deposit money on a hotel or activity which may not even be in business after August 1st? How about the fun time you have to endure to get there. Do you really want to sit in a tube for 6 to 12 hours to a place which doesn’t even have a plan to open. Also why take a chance on getting a positive test result back just hours before you leave. The airlines change fees start at $200 per person and most hotels require you to cancel way before your test results comes back so that can be another lost of money. Going to Hawaii is like a quick drive down to another state. If you are going to spend a significant amount of money and time for a trip you want to make sure you get the maximum value of of it. Currently, Hawaii just doesn’t cut it. Maybe next year.

    1. That is bad news for the people of Hawaii. They were so looking forward to your visit. They are going to be crushed when they read this.

    2. Here is some news. Southwest airlines charges ZERO for changes. Our maui condo rental already has received a couple of good bookings.

    3. Aloha Richard,

First, Hawaiian Airlines has a no fee change policy through at least the end of June (which may be extended), and SWA allows you to rebook flights with no change fees all the time…and likely more Airlines are doing the same (although I haven’t checked them all). So, if you do get sick, you will be able to reschedule without change fees, on at least those 2 airlines, if you have bought a ticket through the end of this month…and not to mention, with Hawaiian, you currently get 2 years, from the date of purchase to rebook and fly.

Second, most hotels and vacation rentals, have allowed people to reschedule or refunded their bookings, since they were forced to shut down, and couldn’t uphold their end of the agreement. Currently, the smart thing to do would be to negotiate the ability to get a free rebooking on any travel arrangements (or purchase the travel insurance, which you should be doing anyway, in times like these), should you get sick, or not be allowed to fly, no matter where you are going.

Third, making statements that start with, “I have some bad news for the people of Hawaii”, and following it up with claims suggesting, “No one will be coming…”, just because you decided not to go, is not only blatantly false, but a tad arrogantly presumptuous. Personally, I have already made arrangements to go, at the beginning of August and stay until almost the middle of September, with travel between islands at least once, and I know of at least a half dozen that have re-booked their plans for later this year, also.

So, If you really think “nobody will be coming”, you are sorely mistaken, bud. People will come/go. They always do…

Aloha BoH, thanks again for the update!!!

      1. Hi Jim.

Thanks for this and your many other comments! We appreciate your input.

        Aloha.

        1. Aloha R & J,

You did get my “personal” message, that I sent, right? I assumed you wouldn’t share that…

          1. Hi Jim.

Yes, we sent you a personal email reply. Did you not receive it?

            ALoha. R/J.

          2. Hi Jim.

We just wrote to you again at the email address you listed. Did you receive it?

            Aloha.

    4. Richard, you are absolutely right. It’s hard to understand the incredible insistence that some people have about absolutely wanting to take their Hawaiian vacation right now, no matter what. Folks, lean back and chill. Hawai’i will be there next year, and the next, and the next. Adapt. Learn patience. Meanwhile, accept and embrace changes in your lifestyle. There are so many fulfilling, rewarding and enriching things to do near home. Yes, we all wanted to take that vacation this year. Guess what: stuff happens and things change. That’s life. Less complaining and more positive adaptation will make you a lot happier.

      1. Many of the trips people are planning in August and this Fall are due to travel plans being cancelled due to c0vid. I don’t think you understand how many people are just trying not to lose thousands of dollars. We were supposed to come in May through June. We are only attempting to come back so soon because hotwire, Delta and the Marriott would not give us a refund and the Marriott said we had to use by dec 2015. Its infuriating.

  10. We are planning on coming to visit August 4th through the 11th. What test do we need, how is it documented?

    Thank you,
    Mike

    1. Hi Mike.

We look forward to sharing more details on testing as they are released in the days ahead.

      Aloha.

    2. Mike G,

Mike W here. My family of FOUR along with 2 other families were scheduled for a week in Kauai in May. That was miraculously rescheduled to AUG 1st! That said, EVERY entity has also CHARGED US MORE for the August dates.

NOW…. We here, we can travel to Hawaii “IF” we can arrive with a C0VID test done within the past 72 hours.

HERE’S the KICKER that all the headlines are NOT telling us….

C0VID Test are either NOT available to General Travelers or have longer than a 3 day wait for results on the Mainland. Hawaii says, their working on this?! We’re waiting for access to tests and processing that doesn’t yet exist. Thousands of people think this was the original intention, a request that can not be met. A ruse, a scam….

I have lots of money invested in this trip and now get an EMAIL from Hawaiian Airlines saying, “If I CHOOSE to get a COVID Test” you can bypass Quarantine?! REALLY? “CHOOSE???” If I can’t get the test is this JUST the Airlines and Hotel/Condo industries way of getting out of refunds or rescheduling?

HOW ABOUT, giving us a “CHANCE.”

Thanks for letting me rant… I’m getting more angry by the day…..

Thanks again to BOH for this venue and all its information! You guys are the BEST source!

      1. Hi Mike.

Thank you! We are hoping for more answers this week and understand the imperative of having adequate information to put your money and vacation plans on the line.

        Aloha.
