  1. Aloha, first of all thank you for your newsletter, I read it all the time! Today we booked one way tickets from Seattle to Maui on Hawaiian Air and got a really great deal! We even used miles! My question is, do you happen to know why the middle seats of rows 43 and 44 of the Airbus 330 are only three across instead of four, please? I’ve Googled it and can’t find a thing.

    Thank you so much!

    Lanell

      1. Thank you so much! Not sure why I didn’t figure that out. I can’t believe you take the time to answer all these questions people post. I just live reading them! 😎

  2. Aloha, it’s been so great having your information and updates to share w my mainland friend and family. Thank you for taking the time time to get us all the info. I’m on Kauai looking for cheap airfare to California. Do the same rates apply? Or is it only mainland TO Hawaii? Any advice for LIH to SFO SAN or Long Beach in May? Maaahalooo. 🤙🏼

    1. Hi Stasea.

Thanks! The offers we write about are valid either starting on the mainland or starting in Hawaii.

      Aloha.

  3. Hi! You guys are awesome in providing helpful information! We’re planning a trip to Maui and Kauai in October. Can you please tell me if it’s better to book each leg, i.e BWI to OGG, then to LIH, then return to BWI or RT to OGG with a separate RT between the islands? We plan to spend a week on Maui and a week on Kauai.
    Thanks for your help.

    1. Hi Teal.

Too early to book for October – better to look starting 3 months in advance. But it looks like round trip BWI-OGG could be as low as $425 or so (with a 20 hour duration) or up to $800 (with a 13 hour duration). So that duration factor is also something to consider. When you return from Lihue, that price starts about $100 or so more, and guess what, it will cost you $100 or more to get back from Lihue to Maui. Plus inter-island will add hours to your transit. Bottom line, just return from Lihue. Hope that helps.

      Aloha.

  4. Hi, thank you so much for the updates. Wish I had known about your website sooner and didn’t have to miss the great deals that southwest and Alaska Airlines offered earlier this month from Oakland to Honolulu. I have to travel from either Oakland, San Jose, or San Francisco to Honolulu from August 4th-10th. Unfortunately I can’t be flexible since my hotel is already paid for. My question is do you think that there might be another sale for summer please? I have been checking and the prices are on the rise and the cheapest price I get is around $550. Please advise.

Thank you and hope to hear from you.

    1. Hi Monila.

Gut feeling on your dates/route is that it will go down by $100 or more. Can’t say for sure, or if it does when that will happen. August is softer in terms of demand and fares compared with say July.

      Aloha.

  5. Hi,
This site is great! Please let us know in the Chicago area if/when SWA might have any news about including us in any Hawaii flights even though they probably will not be nonstop any time soon if ever?

    Thank you so much!

    Connie

    1. Hi Constance.

Thank you! We will be updating information about Southwest Hawaii flights from beyond the west coast as soon as possible.

      Aloha.

  6. Hi! We are looking to fly from east coast to Maui and home from Oahu in mid-late October. Preferable GSP, but also CLT or ATL. When is the ideal time to find the lowest tickets? I see 3 months out but i’m too much of a planner and afraid the prices will only get higher if we wait it out.

    Thank you!

    1. Hi Meredith.

From GSP prices really don’t vary much, so you can probably feel okay about buying now if you prefer. Right about $800 with fastest connections. Atlanta tends to run about $100 less most of the time, but that isn’t yet available for your dates. Hope that helps.

      Aloha.

      1. Which airline is not available yet for Atlanta? Is there something else I should be watching for? And is 3 months ideal for atlanta?

        Thanks

        1. Hi Meredith.

Sorry if that wasn’t clear. We were just saying that best prices aren’t yet available – it wasn’t airline dependent. 3 months is typically best time to start looking regardless of where you are flying from. There can be exceptions, but that’s a good rule of thumb.

          Aloha.

          1. Thank you for your help. One other question. Do you see island hopping deals closer to 3 months out or ever or should we go ahead and book those at current prices to guarantee ideal flight times?

            Thanks again

          2. Hi Meredith.

Keep in mind that things are fast evolving with the most competition we’ve seen in years. So we don’t know, but for your low season travel, it is quite likely that there will be inter-island deals ahead. That is unless you are very fixed on day and time, in which case with limited flight inventory, it can be best to just pay up in advance.

  7. We are coming to Maui early November. When is the best time purchase airline tickets? Should i purchase soon to make sure we get the flight we want and better seat selection, or wait for a better price? I believe we will be flying Hawaiian airlines and combining with a rental car. Thank you.

    1. Hi Stephanie.

Early November is an easy time to travel to Hawaii with less concern about availability overall. Not sure that upcoming sales will go out that far right now, so you might need to wait a couple of months or so for best pricing on your dates.

      Aloha.

  8. hello
new to this sight. I see your showing fare sales on hawaiian airlines from Portland. How come I can never find them on hawaiians sight. are you showing one way and their sight shows round trip or do I have to do something special to get this pricing.

    1. Hi Brad.

Since you are new, welcome. Please read our comment policy. Only comments with please or thank get a reply or help finding fares. As it says too, you need to state your cities and dates for us to help.

      Aloha.

  9. Hi, I love the information that you bring to us and we plan on taking a trip to North Shore Oahu is September a good month for cheaper airfare we will be flying out of Houston Texas
    Thank you Terry O

    1. Hi Terry.

Perfect time to visit in terms of costs, fewer visitors, best weather. Best prices usually found about 3 months in advance.

      Aloha.

  10. Hi, I am a huge fan of your website and refer all my friends looking for Hawaii deals to check your site first. I never thought I would be writing with a question and am not sure if this is something you have information about. We have a lot of Hawaiian Airline Miles and we were looking to use them for August or October. As of last weekend, there were some good mileage deals. On Monday, they were gone. Do you know how often Hawaiian releases seats for mileage award travel? Thank you for being such a great source of information!

    1. Hi Cheryl.

Thank you! Good question and something with which we are familiar. As with other airlines, Hawaiian changes that mileage award inventory frequently. It is a supply/demand issue, and if airlines think they can sell them they will hold back on inventory. When we book using Hawaiian Miles, we are always looking get the better value super-saver award. That is the hard one to get (since it requires about half as many miles).

Generally the best awards are easiest to find when the availability period first opens (330 days in advance), at the last minute (say within 60 days), or when dynamics indicate that the airline may not be selling those seats.

For August or October, you’re way beyond initial availability, so those may only become available as it gets closer. Or not at all. And as a last side note, depending on where you are flying to, fares this fall may be so low as to reduce the benefit of even using a mileage award.

Hope that helps. If not, let us know.

      Aloha.
