We’re back with our regularly scheduled programming and unadvertised Hawaii deals! This time, we are featuring Hawaiian Airlines and their very first $99 airfares following reopening. Some fares dropped as much as $50 each way (LAX-HNL).
Watch with us as airlines start tiptoeing back to Hawaii deals. We will see a great deal more of these $99 airfares ahead and even some lower as the Hawaii travel engine slowly restarts.
All of the islands have at least one $99 route today, but many other routes are priced at up to $135 each way, including all taxes and fees.
Travel is mostly for winter travel dates through mid-March. Some routes have other travel dates. These prices are for basic economy tickets and mid-week travel, Monday through Thursday. Some weekends are just slightly more. You’ll get to bring a full-size carry-on and enjoy complimentary meals with wine on-board. Plus wide-body comfort on many routes.
See: Hawaiian Airlines Has No Change Fees.
Notes on availability:
▶ We always find cheaper fares than advertised by airlines, but with less availability. Keep that in mind when searching.
▶ Date range indicates at least some days in each month have availability at the time of publishing.
▶ Can’t find what you’re looking for? See Need Help below.
▶ Airfares change up to five times each weekday, and availability decreases as seats are booked.

▶ Fares shown are Main Cabin Basic, and the full-fare economy is about $30 more.
▶ Start travel either on the US Mainland or in Hawaii.
▶ Prices listed are each-way, including all taxes and fees. Mid-week availability and weekends slightly more on most routes.
How to book:
Book online only – these fares are not available by phone. Use the links below to go directly to the Hawaiian Airlines website and then search for your city pairs and dates. Try using the monthly fare calendar for more options and to locate the cheapest fares.

We are currently searching fares from LAX to HNL for late July. I see the low @ $528/pp with restrictions. Will this be the best price for that time of year? Thank you!
Beat of Hawaii says
Hi AJ.
We’re finding $450 RT for late July on multiple airlines. It could get a little better towards the actual date of travel, but that isn’t guaranteed, and that is already a savings of about $250 off normal summer fares.
Aloha.

We want to book flights from JFK to Honolulu on Oct 1-Oct 10 2020. The prices right now for those travel dates are over $2,000. I’ve never seen it that high. Do you know when those prices will go down?
Thank you!
Beat of Hawaii says
Hi Jeanette.
On just checking, prices are $634 (1-stop) to $834 (nonstop). Might come down some, but since return is on a Saturday, not as much as mid-week. Best price is typically within 90 days of travel.
Aloha.
Michelle says
Hello!
Thank you for all the updates!
I am flying to OGG from Los Angeles area at the end of March 2020 on Sunday. The prices right now on Hawaiian Airlines for Main Cabin seats are coming to ~$500 which is an average expected cost. Do you think I should wait to see if the price drops in the new year or will it stay about the same?
Beat of Hawaii says
Hi Michelle.
Spring break is the hardest to predict. Gut sense on that is that it might improve due to the competitive environment. That is so long as there is availability. Tough call.
Aloha.
Diane C says
Aloha,
I’m going with 3 friends to Kona in Mid July from Seattle. I’ve been watching the fares on Hawaiian. It’s been $750 to $780 going thru OGG. Is that the best fare to expect for July fares? Thank you so much for all the great info you supply!
Maholo
Beat of Hawaii says
Hi Diane.
Yes that is pretty standard and there are no competitive pressures in that market.
Aloha.
Wendy says
Hello I also can not find any fares even close to theses noted above. I am looking at say – San Diego to Maui – January or February – all $400-600 no matter what day of the week during this time frame from best I can tell! Maybe these rates are for October or November perhaps?
But I am very grateful for the work you do!
Beat of Hawaii says
Hi Wendy.
The fares are no longer available. Please check in right away next time we post a sale and we’ll always be glad to help find dates if you can’t.
Aloha.

I am a new subscriber and am wondering how to find the “unadvertised fares” because it takes me to the Hawaiian Airlines page. Thank you for your time.
Please advise
Beat of Hawaii says
Hi Chad.
From there, use the monthly calendar to find the fares. They are not available as of today, but there will be more fare sales soon.

Hello,
my family of 5 ( maybe 6) are planning on travelling to Honolulu in Mid May.
WE live in Philadelphia but see that Boston has a good fare through May, and it would definitely be worth the time to drive there. However, I cannot find those fares ($349) on the website. Can you please help?
Also, do you think there would be better fares from Philadelphia if we wait?
Thank you very much,
Cathy
Beat of Hawaii says
Hi Catherine.
You didn’t say what days you’re looking for so it is hard to help on both if you’re questions. There are many dates available.
Aloha.
catherine says
We are flexible on dates, any time after May 15.
thank you again!,
Cathy
Beat of Hawaii says
Hi Catherine.
Prices are up as of today so suggest checking again on Tuesday.

Mahalo for keeping watch on airfares for us. It is a nice service that you provide. I’m waiting patiently to see if prices will drop for May 2020. We’ll be flying from Oakland to Maui, and I’m watching fares for Hawaiian, Alaska, and Southwest and your site really helps my confidence for when I finally book our flights.
Really do appreciate you guys and all of the tips you provide for having the best time while traveling AND while on the islands.
Aloha!
Beat of Hawaii says
Hi Debi.
Thanks so much!!

Hi I’m so happy I found your site! What is the weather generally like during the time frame of the deals (Jan-March) we were thinking of going to Honolulu or Kona.
Thank you!
Beat of Hawaii says
Hi Brittany.
It is of course winter. But winter in Hawaii can be one of the most magical times and we’d recommend it.
The days are somewhat shorter, nights are cooler, temperatures are generally still close to 80. It may rain, but it may not.
Aloha.
June H. says
Could you please tell me if there are ever deals on flights from Las Vegas to Honolulu?
Your help is truly appreciated!
Thank you
Beat of Hawaii says
Hi June.
Starting at just over $300 with a stop en route or from low $400’s Nonstop.
Aloha.

Hello and thanks for your web page.
After reading all these years I have a request.
When there is a $139 flight from Oakland to Kona or Lihue or whatever
could you please name the date and time and flight number
of that particular deal? When I do a search there is nothing close
to that price. Granted that flight is probably already sold out
but it would save a lot of time not searching in vain.
Thank you very much.
Aloha
Beat of Hawaii says
Hi David.
We have an alternate proposal. Please feel free to comment anytime we post something when you can’t find it. Let us know the dates (within the range we’ve indicated) that you’re looking for. We will try to help. Having said that, regarding today’s post, did you do a search using a month view so you could see the dates on which the sale fares were available. That’s really the only way to find deals easily.
It is problematic as well as very time consuming to list flight numbers and times. Also it is a very fast changing situation, with airline rates being updated five times daily.
Thanks for being a regular!
Aloha.

Thank you for your amazing site – both your information and the questions and answers are most helpful.
Just checking – I assume the low priced fares and nonrefundable and cannot be changed? I could not find this answer on the booking site.
I will be traveling in January from San Jose CA or San Francisco CA to Hilo and then Oahu an returning to SFO or San Jose, depending on fares. Do you think there will be any further lowering of fares or is this about as good as it will get?
Thanks so much.
Linda
Beat of Hawaii says
Hi Linda.
Thank you. You’re correct there are generally no changes (that are affordable) and no cancellations. Southwest is the exception as you can make changes with just whatever difference in fare there may be. If you cancel you can apply that to a future flight.
If you’re flexible and traveling midweek you may find better prices ahead.
Aloha.
Cheryl F. says
How likely is it do you think that Southwest will add San Diego flights tomorrow 26th? Thank you
Beat of Hawaii says
Hi Cheryl.
There is a good chance.
Aloha.

Hi Looking PHX to LIH 6/20-6/26 any target prices you can recommend! Thanks
Colleen C
Beat of Hawaii says
Hi Colleen.
That will be close to $1k. If you an leave Friday instead of Saturday you’ll lower airfare nearly $150. And midweek is better. Prices aren’t likely to improve by waiting and gut says Southwest won’t be on that route by then.
Aloha.

How do I find out the “Unadvertised Flights from Hawaiian airlines” dates? When I click on the link it takes me to the hawaiian airlines page.
Leanne C says
Good evening! I’m hoping you could please advise on airfare rates from Milwaukee to Maui 2/6/20-2/15/20 for our elopement on the island. We are so excited and only have the flights left to take care of. I would greatly appreciate any insight on buying now or holding off a bit longer! Thanks! Love your site and email updates!
Beat of Hawaii says
Hi Leanne.
Thank you. With only one stop and a quick connection, currently $683-$761 on multiple airlines. It probably won’t come down much if at all by waiting, unless you are open to 2-3 stops instead of 1, and a significantly longer duration.
Aloha.
Leanne C says
Thank you so much for your prompt response. I think we will go ahead and book now while we still have a little flexibility with flight times. Appreciate your guidance! Mahalo!
Beat of Hawaii says
Hi Leanne.
Glad that worked out. Thanks for letting us know.
Aloha.

Hello,
Thank you for all the incredible content you provide here. I’m a newcomer and have been reading lots of posts. I plan to bring my family of 4 for a July trip to Kauai. My understanding is that booking even now would be advisable? If you could please advise: For a July 2020 flight to LIH from say Chicago or Detroit, what would you consider a target airfare? I would book now, but I’m not sure if better fares are coming. And of course Southwest fares for summer won’t be available for a bit.
Thank you!
Mary
Beat of Hawaii says
Hi Mary.
Thank you! 1-stop is now at $962 and 2-stop is $833. Multiple airlines, good connections, mid-week, from Chicago. Since Southwest will be two tickets to Hawaii, not sure they will be of help here. And no one plans to give summer tickets away cheap.
It isn’t likely that prices will improve by waiting.
Aloha.
Mary B. says
Thank you for your helpful reply. I will get us booked asap. I did some more checking and found some very good deals out of Toronto. A 6 hour drive for us, but possibly worth it as the savings really add up!
Aloha!

I used your link then used the flight finder tool from Hawaiian, that shows the relative prices of fares. Disappointingly, none of the flights I saw (searched Phoenix to Maui after January) showed the deep discounts. The least expensive round trip I found was around $560. It may be that there are a very few of the ultra-cheap flights, and those just weren’t available when my family wanted to travel.
Beat of Hawaii says
Hi Kiawe.
Thanks for being a commentor over the past years. The fares we listed are still available today. Most of February, later part of March, 2nd half of April and early May. Days of week vary but are limited to Sundays through Thursdays. It is definitely not a majority of dates but it is certainly available. The best deals require the most flexibility. We’ve had to change our routing and dates innumerable times to get those ourselves. Sometimes it works and sometimes it just doesn’t, and then we pay up.
Aloha.

I have been reading your blog for many, many years.
I live in Kilauea -about 20 yrs now
My son has a small farm in Plumas County California, and I help him sometimes 2 or 3 times a year…
So here’s the thing. I haven’t flown a mainland HA flight since about 2005!
Even when I go to LA, or NM sometimes, I check my HA App (agent before apps) and can never find a decent priced economy fare flight to connect to RNO!
I would love to fly on HA, instead of UA, AA, Alaska (remember ‘Sun’?!) because they treat you like cattle!
But HA seats never lure me with price, and Connecting to RNO (closest- 90 min.) is seemingly impossible as well.. Even trying to fly into SMK & beg my son to drive a whole extra hour to pick me up won’t solve the dilemma!
Please tell me what I’m missing, before SWA makes things complicated (maybe a solution, but When is still a Mystery) and help me see a way to fly a reasonable 1 stop, or even a quick 2 stop (HNL) to get here to 95971 or get home – like next month???
I’m about as flexible as an airline could dream, on day of travel. I almost always go T-Th flights, except it’s sometimes cheaper on Sunday with UA somehow.
And I’m open to getting a ticket home late next week all the way up to 10/1 when playoffs start 🙂
I know you don’t wanna be anybody’s travel agent, especially a poor guy like me from the N. shore, but I keep reading your blog, and somehow I’m still mystified how to break out of the last 10 legs on UA – they have to keep giving me vouchers ($100 on 8/16) cuz they always have all kina problems. I usually pay them like $250-$400 for a 10-12 hr tour 1 stop thru SFO. So it’s not like I’m finding $140 red-eyes. I’m too old for that anymore.
I’m so sick of them, but even spending an extra $50 for HA doesn’t seem to do the trick. It’s still crazy connections or way high like $500 one ways by the time I get a connecting flight to RNO.
Mahalo,
Anthony
(Not expecting u to keep posted, but didn’t wanna snail mail u)
Beat of Hawaii says
Hi Anthony.
Thanks for sticking with us over the years!
Can’t disagree with you about the challenge of getting to/from Reno. It looks like Southwest may help with that, but as of today, it permits building that routing in one direction, but not both ways. Until then, United seems to be the best choice.
Aloha.

When you list the sale price as <>
does that mean that the sale price is only available in January (until the start of February) or does it mean that the sale price is available January AND February?
It would clarify your posts if you said either
<> or <>
Thanks
Beat of Hawaii says
Hi Tim.
If we say January until February, it means you will find the fares shown on at least some days in those months. We typically aren’t specifying which days are available. If we ever post something you’re interested in, and you can’t find availability, please just reach out and we’ll do our best to clarify for your dates and route.
Aloha.
