  1. We are traveling to Kona next week but would like to
Island hop a bit. Have never done this. Which island
do you recommend? We love learning about the culture
as well as seeing the sights and beaches. Honolulu? Or
    Maui?

  2. Aloha,
We are traveling to LAX to HNL Jan 1st-8th, 2018. The price is around $600 for RT ticket. Any chance it will go lower?
Mahalo – I appreciate your help!
    Annie

  3. My husband and I have been going to Maui every year for the last 14 years and we love it. But now thanks you BOH, sending the emails of flash sales, I was able to book 23 tickets to Maui taking my entire family & all on the same flight! Now to find a huge house or several condos in the same building, this should be fun…

  4. Hi,

I’ve been watching feverishly for airfare from SJC to HNL in early December to drop below $580. We go every year and don’t remember paying more than $450 R/T. Any ideas on when and if the prices will come down please? Am I seeing the lowest prices or do you think it’ll go down a tad more? Thank you!

  5. I always get excited when I see airfare deals pop up in my e-mail. I live in Phoenix though and there never seems to be anything good happening from Phoenix. We deserve to go to Hawaii too, to get out of the heat rather than the cold. Phoenix is a mere 155 miles further from Hawaii than Seattle. Help me understand what gives?!

    1. Hi Tammy.

Concur with you on this. In a word, competition, or lack thereof. Nothing to do with distance. It’s stuck between American and Hawaiian. Something will need to shake that up for fares to improve. It will happen, and it is just a matter of when.

      Aloha.

  6. Hello,

I watch your posts and fare alerts from the airlines and I try to find the flights that you post but never can find those rates. Can you please advise how I can find those fares? Thank you

    1. Hi Kim.

The fares just posted are all valid. You didn’t say what you were looking for specifically.

Moreover, best way to find these is using flexible date search on the airline’s website. Remember not available all days – that’s why you need to look at a monthly view of fares to find availability.

      Aloha.

  7. Hello!

Looking to book from Seattle to Maui (OGG) around June 22 – July 2nd 2018. As of now, cheapest flights I’m seeing are with Hawaiian at $780 each R/T.

Are these typical rates for this time or should we expect a little drop?

I realize this is beginning of peak season but thought I would see what others have come across during these time periods.

    Thanks!

    1. Hi Scott.

Next year – starting spring on will be quite unpredictable. So consider waiting if you are flexible. Otherwise that is price to be expected and doesn’t “usually” come down. But in 2018, anything’s possible.

      Aloha.

      1. Thanks for the reply!

I was just reading further on your site and the comments about how Hawaiian Air is due to take delivery of 9 additional A321neo planes next year, most of which will arrive early in 2018.

I guess I will wait it out a little while and see what happens… hopefully others do as well and keep the fares from rising until these new routes come available 🙂

          1. Thanks for the heads-up on the Seattle to Maui deals (subscribed to your newsletter) I do see numerous one-way tix starting at $181-$185 with 2-stops starting end of this month through July 2018.

Nothing we can do on our travel dates but hopefully United keeps this up and puts some pressure on Hawaiian and Alaska 😉

  8. Me and my wife have been going to Hawaii since 1985, we love it, we’re from southern Ca. Now we’re both retired, an the money isn’t like it was when I was working. I would like to know the lowest possible flights and hotel prices, non stop. dates vary Sept.Oct Nov even next year 2018 thank you

  9. I caught this deal a few weeks ago, thanks to this great site. Thank you! I thought I was going to have to pay over $600pp. Saved us about $400 on airfare.

  10. Aloha!
Looking at the screenshot you posted of the$ 365- fare from Sea to Ogg, is that supposed to be relevant? The dates are past (7/19/17) and the flight has 2 stops with over 11 hour duration?
    Thx

    1. Hi Melika.

Thanks for pointing that out. We removed the photo. Deal has been on-again, off-again, and photo was from early post.

      Aloha.

  11. Hi there. Do you know of non stop flights to Kona from San Diego Oct. 11-16th? also considering changing dates so child won’t miss school. Dates available are between Sept. 17-Oct.2nd staying 5 nights 6 days.
    Thanks so much!

    1. Hi Jacqueline.

There are no non stops on those days. Check other dates – say September 21 departure.

      Aloha.

  12. Darn! I just tried kayak.com and cheapest I got from San Diego to
Maui was 442. Leaving Aug 21. Any other travel site have the deals?

  13. Aloha. It’s hard to get too excited about these just announced fares when a few days ago you predicted fares could be around 200$ round trip within a short time due to airline fleet additions and seat capacity increases as airlines enter and adjust themselves into the market. The writing is surely on the wall so it will be interesting to see how low fares will truly go. That said, it is now much harder to find good car rental deals than a few years ago. One giveth , the other takes away. Thanks for all you do to help our travel needs. Reggie.

    1. Hi Reggie.

We did not say around $200, but rather in the $200’s RT. Specifically we said next target is $149 each way, which is $298 round trip. Just to clarify. Yes concur about car rentals having consolidated and prices going up. But having said that we still usually find pretty good car rental deals.

      Aloha

  14. Will you be doing any flights from st.louis,mo to maui in 2018 I do miss the island time. Been 2x 2007,2012 should have been this year but had to postpone it hoping for 2018. Mahola

    1. Hi Larry.

Doubtful that anything will change with St. Louis as far as we know. Still hope you can make it back to the islands.

      Aloha.

  15. I have our flight booked on Hawaiian round trip to Maui.
We want to fly from Maui to Kona for a week.
I don’t ever see cheaper air fair from Maui to Kona

Do you know if this ever happens and when I should keep looking.

    Thanks

    1. Hi Helen.

Season and day of week dependent. Generally just under $100 each way. If it is on sale, which is rare, you probably wouldn’t save more than $10. So suggest buying.

      Aloha.

  16. Aloha. Is there any way to sign up for alerts when the best airfares from Sacramento to Honolulu in January/February every Year are published? We’ve been traveling to Lihue every year at the same time since 1994. We always fly Hawaiian. We love everything about our “second home”. Thank you for
responding to my inquiry. Mahala. Susan

  17. I picked up tickets from Las Vegas to Honolulu roundtrip direct flight for $552 on Hawaiian Air. I have to drive to get there, but it is saving me so much money per ticket, is well work the extra road trip.

  18. Aloha, my family would is planning a trip for 10 flying from San Jose to Lihue late September. What is the typical price? How can I find the best prices? Maholo!

    1. Hi Katie.

Somewhere in the $400’s is the target. We’ll be featuring many more fall sales so do stay tuned.

      Aloha.

  19. Aloha,

We are slated to fly to HNL arriving on 2/11/18 and returning on 2/18/18, after the previous couple of plans fizzled. With our timeshare booked, we are getting there one way or another. What should our target price be out of San Diego?

Even though we live 10 minutes from LAX, the fares are suggesting we fly out of San Diego, and even ditching our traditional Hawaiian Airlines and using the savings for a more lavish meal on the island.

Our friends, who live in Philadelphia, have accepted our invitation to join us and I want to ask you, the experts, if there is a viable route from there to Honolulu without the crazy connections and layovers. Their saving grace is that in addition to our home, they have family in LA and can stretch their vacation a few days before and after to either fly out of LAX or join us in San Diego to fly together. In summary, does an affordable sane route exist between Philadelphia and Honolulu? Thank you for your insight.

We are excited to return to Hawaii once again, and this time with more friends in tow.

    Mahalo,
    Alan

    1. Hi Alan,

Four or more airlines to choose from on that route. All with connection times of 12 hours and change. Fares should be around $800.

      Aloha.

  20. Good Morning,

Thanks for the information, it is always appreciated. I am headed to Maui for the week of July 4th and I cannot find a budget friendly hotel. Most places are people renting out their condos. Do you have any info regarding deals for 1 week stay?

    1. Hi Meelah.

Deals and the first week of July on Maui just don’t go together. Sorry. Suggest getting something soon as availability could be an issue.

      Aloha.

  21. I am always looking for deals to Hawaii, particularly to Kauai. It is tough to find anything under $800 from the Charlotte, NC. Do you know when the best time to buy? Thanks so much!!!
    Darcy

    1. Hi Darcy.

Travel is best during spring and fall for every reason including price. Sales are in the seasons approaching those dates.

      Aloha.

  22. Looking to book in mid October from Oak to Maui. The cheapest price I’ve found is $430. Should I book or wait a little longer?

    Thank you!

    1. Hi Alexis.

Might or might not improve. That’s a good price and if comes down at any point between now and then it won’t be by much.

      Aloha.

  23. Would love to see deals to Maui or Big Island from Minneapolis. Any suggestions on when fare deals are available would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    1. Hi Mao.

High $600’s to mid-$700’s is best you can target. Occasional sales happen – like once or twice a year, where prices could be sub-$500.

      Aloha.

  24. We are going to Maui the end of June. Prices are so high (700 RT) I have waited . I am getting nervous they might go even higher. I could use some advice!!
    Thank you

    1. Hi Gary.

As we have indicated many times, late June isn’t a time when you want to wait and expect prices to go down. That is the most in demand time other than Christmas and availability and high prices will be an issue in airfare, accommodations, car rental, etc. Prices will not go down by waiting.

      Aloha.

  25. Hello,

Is there ever cheap airfare sales or promotions from Denver? We are traveling to visit beautiful Maui the first part of July.

    Thank you,
    Diana

    1. Hi Diana.

For summer – sorry but that won’t happen. Expect to pay nearly $900 with any kind of reasonable connection (like 9 hours). With a 16 hour connection, there are some $660 airfares.

      Aloha.

  26. Any prospects for sub-$400 flights from Seattle, to any island, anytime? Seattle always seems at the high end for west coast flights.
