Hello !
My Flight gets into HNL then getting on a plane to Maui. How much time do I need in between flights? I’m thinking about 2 hours. My plane lands in Honolulu airport at 1:20. Thinking of booking the flight to Maui at 3:30. Do u think this is enough time or do I need more time in between flights?
Thank you your sight is very helpful
Maryann 🙂
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Maryann,
If with the same carrier (Hawaiian) then don’t worry too much about the connecting time – 2 hours is more than enough. If not, then we’d suggest a bit longer since you’ll have a problem if your mainland flight is late.
Aloha.

Hi
My family are going to Maui March 28th 2017 flying out of either Portland or Seattle depending on which is cheaper. When is the best time to purchase tickets for our trip?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Mark,
We’ll be updating for 2017 a bit later in the year when we have a better fix on spring break dates. Generally speaking Seattle will be better.
Aloha.
Mark
Thanks. I’ll be looking for a update. I really like this site

Hi,
Was hoping to go to Maui from SJC/SFO/OAK at the end of April (depart anywhere between the 22nd and 27th). Prices are about $460+ right now. Should I wait it out?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Ken,
There should be sales coming soon for after spring break that may improve the cost.
Aloha.
Claire
Hi,
I am flying to Oahu on January 2017 for a week for my wedding. When is the best time to book for my flight? I could let my guests flying from San Francisco know about it too. Thanks in advance!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Claire,
Based on how this past January went, we’d suggest waiting until potential sales in late summer or fall.
Aloha.
Andrew
Hi! My fiancé and I will be going to Maui on September 12th through the 19th out of Portland, OR. When do you think would be the best time to buy our tickets? Right now on Expedia there is a round trip nonstop (both ways) through Alaska for $548 per person. Do you think we should jump on that, or should we wait and see?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Andrew,
Couple of thoughts here. First, as you see in the post, Portland is rather stuck at the moment price-wise. Few deals. On the other hand, there is no reason to buy now for those low-season dates. There is a much greater chance that the price will go down than go up. Wait until fall deals start, per post.
Aloha.
Vicki
Aloha~ We are planning to take the family to Maui this August. I have found non-stop tickets from LAX to OGG for $750. Am I buying to early or should I wait? Will the prices go down in the spring? Thanks for your guidance!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Vicki.
We suggest waiting as indicated in post. We can’t say how long – you may need to wait until summer. We’ll be posting them here the moment they come out. Should be a pleasant surprise.
Aloha.
vicki
Thanks!!
Vicki
While I am waiting for the LAX-Maui flights to go down – I am another question. Is there a snorkeling outfitter and/or Luau that your can recommend in Maui? Maybe something that does not go to the top of my search engine?
BTW – love this site!!!
Thanks!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Vicki,
Thank you. And yes, don’t despair as the new flights haven’t started yet. No personally we can’t recommend them. Have you checked the Maui Revealed guidebook. That’s where we would turn.
Aloha.
Lori
Hi, I’ve really enjoy your site and you have great tips. I emailed earlier and your suggestion was to wait till March to book flight for better deals. There will be 9 of us plus a year old. We would like to fly out of Austin or Dallas on May 25-June 2 to Honolulu. My mother-in-law is worried if I wait any longer there won’t be any seats left for those dates. Round trip right now is $625. What are your thoughts.
Many Thanks.
Lori
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Lori.
Thank you!
From Austin $625 is about as good as it is going to get. From Dallas it could come down a bit – maybe by $30-$50. So if Austin works well, don’t hesitate on that price.
Aloha.
Dana
Hello- I’ve booked a hotel for Waikiki Beach November 10th-13th 2016. I’m flying out of Los Angeles-LAX and as of right now flights are $630 and up. Do you think I’ll get lucky and get a flight for under $500 around spring or summer? Or should I expect $600 and above? Thank You for your time.
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Dana,
Pretty sure you’re in for a deal if you are patient.
Aloha.
Libby
Hello! This website is amazing!
I have been on a quest to go to all 50 states before I turn 30 and Hawaii will be the big celebration at the end on my 30th Birthday December 30th, 2016. I’m planning to travel with 8-10 people. I read on the site that Christmas is unfortunately the most popular time to travel. My birthday has always had bad timing. We’d like to be there for 7-10 days somewhere around Dec 30th.
When would you recommend buying tickets? We are flying in From San Antonio or Austin, TX.
Thanks!!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Libby.
Thank you!
Here’s one possibility that might fit the bill. On American Airlines, fly to HNL on 12/30/16 and return on 1/8/17 (or choice of days other than Saturdays), then the price is $678 from SAT with a very quick 1hr connection in Phoenix. Good price, especially with a holidays departure.
Aloha.
Jean
Aloha, I am waiting for the non-stop United Flight from SFO to Kaui from 8/19-8/25 to come down. Do you see any possibility or should I buy now? Mahalo
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Jean,
Currently $728. Target price is about $500. Suggest waiting.
ALoha.
Cathy L.
We are taking the family to Hawaii (7 of us) on July 1, returning July 8, 2016. I am shocked at the nonstop price from Phoenix to Maui….checked this morning and it is $941 RT. That is almost as high as the RT ticket we paid last March to Paris! Can they possibly go up more than this? Why is it so high from Phoenix? Looking for suggestions to make this more affordable, however we are locked into those dates because of a condo. Thank you for your help!!!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Cathy,
Slightly higher than expected. Those are some of the most in demand dates of summer. If you choose 1-stop price is about $100 less. Phoenix doesn’t see great deals at any time of year, with an average of just under $550.
If you’re thinking of the nonstop, then availability could be a problem and we don’t expect to see prices decline.
The only other option could be flying from LA. We’ll see what happens to those summer prices when the new flights start in May. “Might” be in the $650 range. That’s a long way to go of course.
Aloha.
Tina
I will be going to Maui on August 21 through the 28th from Oklahoma, when is the best time to buy my ticket?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Tina,
All of our guidance on that is already in the post. Target price is about $700.
Aloha.
Audrey
We are headed to Sacramento, California To Honolulu, Oahu from 4/22 – 4/29. It looks like $596.00 per person is the best I can get at this time. I have read that 6 weeks prior to purchasing your tickets are the best time. Am I going to see much of a decrease from booking now vs. booking next week? I appreciate any advice that you can give me. I am stressing out thinking I am going to miss my window.
Thank you
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Audrey.
The six weeks isn’t accurate. Deals are when deals are. Sometimes they’re for months out, sometimes they’re for the next few weeks only. It’s what the airlines need at that time.
Current price is $538 for your dates on Hawaiian nonstop. It could come down to the mid-$400’s. But, your Fridays may not participate in the best rates and could remain up to $50 higher. Wait or not, availability should not be an issue.
Aloha.
Audrey
Great, thank you for such a prompt response.
Beat of Hawaii
Thank you Audrey!
Aloha.
Otis
Hello me and my fiancé will be flying from Chicago (Ohare) to Honolulu in June from the 13th-18th. Right now the prices average about $1,100.00 per person. Should I wait to buy the tickets or do you perceive them dropping any?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Otis,
$1032 on United nonstop which isn’t bad. Won’t improve and availability on nonstop could be an issue. You can save money only by changing dates or having very long layovers. Otherwise, won’t improve.
Aloha.
Carla
First, I want to say that your website is awesome. I’ve been subscribing to Beat of Hawaii for years and have gotten some amazing deals because of your email updates.
We are currently planning a family trip to Maui from July 19-28; our hotel is already booked. There will be nine of us, flying out of SFO, OAK (preferred), SJC or SMF. Husband and I are retired, so we always travel when we can get RT air for $350 or less, but for this trip, summer is our only option due to family schedules. RT from OAK on Alaska is currently around $705/pp (and we’ll get six free checked bags, so I prefer Alaska). I know you frequently state that summer fares don’t go on sale, but I’m wondering if the recent addition of VirginAmerica into the mix and lower fuel costs might (hopefully) prompt even a small decrease in price? Considering we’re buying nine tickets, even a $30-40 drop would be good news. I would appreciate your best guess as to whether to pull the trigger now or wait a few weeks longer. Mahalo for taking the time to help us get the best possible deal!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Carla,
Thanks for your nice words!
So a couple of thoughts about your upcoming trip. Yes, we’ve mentioned before that the Bay Area might have some more surprises this summer. Not positive, but we’re already seeing lower than normal prices. The problem is that if that happens is could be relatively last minute. Next, Alaska is charging about $80 more than the Hawaiian nonstop, if that helps. Obviously the bags could eat up that difference.
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, for 9 people, do try calling the group travel desk of the airline(s) and see if they will do anything. Usually the magic number is 10 tickets for a group rate, but you’re so close that it is certainly worth a try. Please let us know how that goes.
Aloha.
Carla
Great suggestion about contacting the group travel desk, but I called Alaska and Hawiian and they both said it had to be 10 or more passengers to qualify. If Alaska would match Hawaiian’s current pricing, I’d jump on that; I’m thinking I’ll hold off for a few more weeks and see what happens. Thanks for your help!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Carla,
Hmmm. Wondering if you could find someone else who might tag along (even on Craigslist). How much of a discount will they offer on 10? Interesting predicament. 🙂
Aloha.
Michelle
Good afternoon,
We will be flying from Oklahoma to Kauai in mid January 2017 and will be staying approximately a week. The sites are quoting just under $800 RT per person right now. I am wondering when the best time to buy our airfare will be and would it be cheaper to fly out of Dallas or another surrounding state? Also, would it be cheaper for us to fly into Honolulu and then take a smaller inter island flight over to Kauai? Thanks for any help you can give.
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Michelle,
Usually best to fly directly to/from neighbor islands. Inter-island flights are generally quite costly and waste a lot of your precious vacation time. Using another city for departure is great if you need to be there anyway. Otherwise there are complexities of multiple itineraries and incumbent issues like security, checked bags, and missed connections. It would be best to wait until later this year. We’ll update 2017 information in the near future.
Aloha.
Michelle
Thank you!
Shiv
Hi,
Myself and my wife are planning for a trip from LAX to Hilo/Kona in the month of May, no specific dates. I have been watching that prices are increasing too much over last 2 months. Please suggest, do we need to wait for any better deals or should book now?
Thanks!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Shiv,
The post has all the information we know. More deals will be forthcoming and we suggest waiting. Los Angeles may not participate much in true sales except to Maui and Honolulu. But some easing should occur.
Aloha.
Shiv
Thanks for the update!
Jerry
We are traveling to Maui Oct. 3rd thru Oct. 24th from SJC. Tickets are at about $440 right now. Do you think there will be much variation in those fares in the upcoming months?
Mahalo nui loa, Jerry
+
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Jerry,
While $440 is a good price, you’ll do better to wait on that highly competitive route.
Aloha.
Helen
Thanks for all the info! I’m planning a trip for 2 from Boston to Maui 8/12-19/2016 and currently see flights for about $800 RT per person. These dates are at the edge of the dates your post mentions so I was curious whether you would recommend to book or wait. Thanks!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Helen,
We can’t tell if your dates will improve by waiting. As you can see a few days later the price drops to the mid $600’s. Gut call is to wait.
Aloha.
Scott
Looking at flying to Maui just before Thanksgiving 2016. Right now I found a flight for $752 from Omaha, Nebraska to Maui for the dates of Nov. 16 to Nov. 24. Is this a good price? Earlier in January these flights were just under $700. Do you think they might get down to those levels again? What time of the year would you generally find the best prices? Thanks!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Scott,
It’s the price on the 24th that’s holding up the price. It might come down again – 50/50 chance. Availability for your dates should remain good so probably no harm in waiting other than unknown price. Thanksgiving is usually best to buy as soon as it is available, but that’s for weekend travel. Mid-week and flying on Thanksgiving itself is unpredictable.
Aloha.
Scott
Thanks for the advice.
Michelle
Hello! I’m trying to book a trip from MCO to HNL 4/7/16-4/14 RT one-stop. So far American is about $883. I’ve been reading the posts and it seems other airlines may be better or new ones picking up HNL soon but I don’t know from MCO. Should I wait to book or is there a more preferable airline less expensive? Your help is much needed and appreciated!!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Michelle,
That’s a pretty good price. No indication it will come down, but if you care to wait and see, given your mid-week post spring break dates, probably no harm either.
Aloha.
Michelle
Thank you much!
Maryann
Hello again,
I’m almost finished planning my family Hawaii trip for my 30 year anniversary ! I have one question left we will be hopping from the island of Honolulu to Maui and then Maui back to Honolulu to get a flight home. Can you tell me what the inter island prices are. RT? Do they ever go on sale? And what is a good time to book ? My trip is from 5/22/2016 -6/1/2016
Thank You your blog has been very helpful 🙂
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Maryann,
Congratulations! Inter-island never really goes on sale, but prices do fluctuate a bit. Your timing should be good to see somewhat lower inter island prices. What that means is the likelihood of more availability at a price point of about $80. The other thing to consider is that there aren’t a lot of inter island flights, so availability and pricing for the most in demand times is frequently an issue.
Hope that helps.
Aloha.
Ash
Hi – family of 5 (2 adults, 3 kids) flying from Toronto YYZ to Big Island KOA from Dec 11, 2016 to Dec 22, 2016.
Seeing flights from $733 CAD, which is about $535 US.
Is that a good price or should I wait?
Thanks,
Ash
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Ash,
Your dates are a little late in December for best pricing. Waiting probably won’t help. Also while we see the $542 fare on your dates, that has a very long connection (almost 19 hours). For $625 you have a 13 hour total time. Both of these on Westjet.
Aloha.
Terrilynne
Hello
We are looking at flying lax to Hnl June 11-28. Prices right now are $765. Do you think that will go down. We can depart from a different airport, would you recommend another?
Any insight is appreciated!
Thanks!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Terrilynne,
Because Virgin America will start flying before then out of LA, it might work best to wait. No guarantee, just a gut feeling.
Aloha.
Terrilynne
Thanks for the reply. Do the prices typically go up from $765 for this time of year? Just worried they might increase.
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Terrilynne,
That’s about normal, but most in demand dates/flights can be higher or more likely, just not available. This year the new carrier may help to control prices.
Aloha.
AJ
looking to fly 4/23 from MSP to LIH. Flights are about $850. Should I hold out and see if they go down?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi AJ.
Leaving on 4/23, with most return dates prices are in mid to high $600’s. Won’t improve.
Aloha.
Sandy
I just found this great site and I’m all signed up! Excited to have some suggestions about a trip my husband and I are planning to Oahu from Seattle around Sept 21, 2016 and leaving a week to 10 days later. I just checked with Alaska end Hawaiian and both are around $500 RT per person. Should I wait until summer to recheck or is that about average?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Sandy,
As you’ve seen in the post already, Seattle is in a favorable environment for discounted pricing. While $500 is an average, gut says to wait and it might improve. You have nothing to lose by waiting as availability at that time will not be an issue and prices won’t be higher.
Aloha.
Jay
Madison, WI-Maui $733 RT on fares for last week of May on United. None of the other major carriers (Delta, American) are under $850RT. What are the chances the other carriers will go on sale as well?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Jay,
Might come down if you wait. Target is $750-$775.
Aloha.
J.Redd
Hello,
I’m currently making plans to fly to Honolulu with my wife. The date we plan on leaving is Aug/24-31. the cheapest price i see is through Hawaiian Airlines at $438 round trip.I thought that was a good price. But in your opinion do you think it will get any lower? I wish i could be flexible with the dates, But I cant.
thank you.
Beat of Hawaii
Hi J.
You didn’t say where you’re flying from – your IP address says SMF. Based on the price your stating, perhaps you’re flying out of OAK. That’s a good price. It might improve a little but not guaranteed. Suggest buying.
Aloha.
J.Redd
I’m sorry I forgot to mention what city. But yes I’m leaving from Oakland Ca. And thank you very much for the reply. I think I’ll go ahead and Buy my tickets. I cant wait!
Aloha
Aniela
We live in Detroit, and are planning a trip to Maui September 2-11. Currently fare has been hovering around 850. I looked into flying out of Windsor, Canada as the rate is about $200 cheaper flying Air Canada. Have you heard of any issues with this airline, and can you foresee any problem flying out of Canada?
thank you so much!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Aniela,
Air Canada has been flying to Hawaii forever. No issues that we would be aware of other than customs formalities of course.
Aloha.
Em
Flying from Oakland to Maui 7/25/16 thru 7/30/16. I’m thinking of buying 1 way flight Oak to Ogg @ $329 now and waiting for the price of the return trip to come down. What do you recommend?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Em,
Not at all likely price will come down. Therefore, don’t suggest waiting.
Aloha.
Cathy
My family is planning a trip to Maui & Oahu from Seattle 6/16-6/23. The best deal I can find now is $687.97 per person on Priceline. What do you recommend? book now or wait? Thanks!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Cathy,
We find $618 RT into Maui and out of Seattle on this dates on Hawaiian. Excellent price for summer. Inter-island is highly dependent on time of day/day of week and varies from about $80 to $200.
Aloha.
Trevor
We are planning on traveling from Utah to Kauai and Oahu May 5th – 15th. Prices for flights have not gone down in the 4 months we have been watching them. Would you still recommend waiting?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Trevor.
Yes SLC is a bit stuck at the moment. Little chance of price increasing and more chance of it decreasing. Availability not an issue.
Aloha.
Heather
We’re in the middle of planning a family vacation to Kauai (6 adults) from late Sept. 2016 – mid Oct. 2016. We’d be flying out of San Diego, CA. We’re starting to look at flights but aren’t seeing many direct flight options and not many morning departures. Prices are on avg. are $530 RT per person. Are we wise to keep waiting? Will more options become available? Thanks for any advice you can give!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Heather,
Nonstop on Alaska is currently $488 which is really quite good for that route if you choose to buy now. Leaves at 10:20am and arrives at 1:35pm. This flight is great, eliminating the need to transit Honolulu and having very convenient travel times. More options will not become available.
Aloha.
Amy
We have a family wedding in Oahu flying out from Oakland, CA for October 2016. Flight is now $438, will there be better deals coming out?
Amy
Forgot to mention the date, it’s October 15, 2016.
Thanks!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Amy,
Probably so if you wait. Details of when you might expect this is already contained in the post. Potential savings of $50-$100.
Aloha.
Amy
Thanks!!! 😄
Chris
Will travel to KOA for a 7 day period between 6/12 and 6/29 (travel days flexible within those dates). Live in Dallas but expect to use points to get to the west coast and pay for the fares from there to KOA. Right now looks like the best I could do would be to fly out of Oakland for a tick under $700 RT per person. What do you recommend, book now or wait? Any reason to believe airfares out of Dallas will decline much below the current $1,000-$1,100 RT per person?
Thanks,
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Chris,
Your dates make any deals unlikely. Bay area is best. Midweek during your date range on Hawaiian quite a few $619 fares on nonstop. That fare is one to strike on.
Aloha.
Christine
Hello!
My fiance and I are planning out honeymoon and hoping to go to Oaho and island hop between Monday 8/1 – Sunday 8/14. When do you think will be the best time to buy? We are planning to fly with Hawaiian Miles as we have a Hawaiian Miles credit card and have been accruing miles, but notice the price continues to increase, at about $1100 now. What do you think? Thanks so much!
Best,
Christine
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Christine,
Your IP address says Boston and you didn’t say (as a reminder to others we need to know exact routing in order to help). Since HA flies only from NYC, perhaps you’re planning to fly from there. Not really sure. Also you said Hawaiian Miles, so not sure why you’re referring to $1100 and not to miles required.
Can you clarify the above and we’ll be happy to try and help.
Aloha.
Regina
Hello!
I will be flying from PHL to HNL sometime between September 3,2016 & September 17,2016. The cheapest flight I see now is $850. Do you think the price will go down?, I was told by a friend to start looking in April, I’m afraid that the prices may go up.
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Regina,
Our best guidance on this is already in the post. Wait for target price of under $700.
Aloha.
Stacey
Any insight on when might be an ideal time to book a flight from Sacramento to Maui for travel in mid-August?
Thank you much!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Stacey,
Our best guidance on pricing for late summer is already in the post. Stay tuned.
Aloha.
Leonard
Hi. We are cruiseing from Honolulu on Christmas Eve 2016. What do you think should be the latest time to book a flight from Phoenix,Az. Thanks so much.
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Leonard,
It would be best to book that immediately. Depending on what days you actually fly, prices from just under $700 to $800’s.
Aloha.
Megan
Hello!
My husband and I will be flying to Maui for a conference in July, so we have fairly specific dates. We can fly out of any airport on the west coast to OGG on July 1, since we’ll be using Southwest miles to get from the east coast to the west. But we’ll have to fly from OGG to Seattle on either July 7 or July 8 (to catch the July 9 Seattle Sounders game!)
Right now, the cheapest flights I can find are from SEA to OGG (roundtrip) for $720 each on Hawaiian Airlines (total = $1,439)
Do you know of any cheaper ways to get to Maui? I know right now there are spring deals from San Francisco and Oakland to Maui for $318 roundtrip. I’m using Skyscanner to try to find deals, but hopefully you or other readers will know a promo code or coupon that would help!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Megan,
There is a small chance of some deals from either SFO or LAX due to the new flights from Virgin America. Not likely for your dates however and availability could definitely become an issue. Peak. There are no coupons or promo codes.
Aloha.
Megan
Unfortunately, that’s what I was thinking. Have you heard anything else about potential Southwest Airlines flights to Hawaii? It would be perfect if they started routes there this summer!
Thanks for your help!
Hi, My family of 4 wants to fly Oakland to Kona sometime in the summer, leaving around June 9 or August 12. Prices are $600+ now. Is that the best I can get or should I wait and see? Thanks!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Eowyn,
June will be quite expensive – in the $600’s. August should improve (currently $500’s) if you wait, but June won’t.
Aloha.

Maryann 🙂
Hi Maryann,
If with the same carrier (Hawaiian) then don’t worry too much about the connecting time – 2 hours is more than enough.
Hi Mark,
We’ll be updating for 2017 a bit later in the year when we have a better fix on spring break dates. Generally speaking Seattle will be better.
Aloha.
Thanks. I’ll be looking for a update. I really like this site

Mahalo Mark!
Hi,
Was hoping to go to Maui from SJC/SFO/OAK at the end of April (depart anywhere between the 22nd and 27th). Prices are about $460+ right now. Should I wait it out?
Hi Ken,
There should be sales coming soon for after spring break that may improve the cost.
Aloha.
Hi,
I am flying to Oahu on January 2017 for a week for my wedding. When is the best time to book for my flight? I could let my guests flying from San Francisco know about it too. Thanks in advance!
Hi Claire,
Based on how this past January went, we’d suggest waiting until potential sales in late summer or fall.
Aloha.
Hi Andrew,
Couple of thoughts here. First, as you see in the post, Portland is rather stuck at the moment price-wise. Few deals. On the other hand, there is no reason to buy now for those low-season dates. There is a much greater chance that the price will go down than go up. Wait until fall deals start, per post.

Aloha~ We are planning to take the family to Maui this August. I have found non-stop tickets from LAX to OGG for $750. Am I buying to early or should I wait? Will the prices go down in the spring? Thanks for your guidance!
Hi Vicki.
We suggest waiting as indicated in post. We can’t say how long – you may need to wait until summer. We’ll be posting them here the moment they come out. Should be a pleasant surprise.

While I am waiting for the LAX-Maui flights to go down – I am another question. Is there a snorkeling outfitter and/or Luau that your can recommend in Maui? Maybe something that does not go to the top of my search engine?

Hi, I’ve really enjoy your site and you have great tips. I emailed earlier and your suggestion was to wait till March to book flight for better deals. There will be 9 of us plus a year old. We would like to fly out of Austin or Dallas on May 25-June 2 to Honolulu. My mother-in-law is worried if I wait any longer there won’t be any seats left for those dates. Round trip right now is $625. What are your thoughts.
Many Thanks.
Lori
Hi Lori.
Thank you!
From Austin $625 is about as good as it is going to get. From Dallas it could come down a bit – maybe by $30-$50. So if Austin works well, don’t hesitate on that price.
Aloha.
Hi Dana,
Pretty sure you’re in for a deal if you are patient.
Aloha.
Thanks!!
Hi Libby.
Aloha.
Aloha, I am waiting for the non-stop United Flight from SFO to Kaui from 8/19-8/25 to come down. Do you see any possibility or should I buy now? Mahalo
Hi Jean,
Currently $728. Target price is about $500. Suggest waiting.
ALoha.
Hi Cathy,
Slightly higher than expected.
Aloha.
I will be going to Maui on August 21 through the 28th from Oklahoma, when is the best time to buy my ticket?
Hi Tina,
All of our guidance on that is already in the post. Target price is about $700.
Aloha.
Thank you
Aloha.
Great, thank you for such a prompt response.
Thank you Audrey!
Aloha.
Hello me and my fiancé will be flying from Chicago (Ohare) to Honolulu in June from the 13th-18th. Right now the prices average about $1,100.00 per person. Should I wait to buy the tickets or do you perceive them dropping any?
Hi Otis,
$1032 on United nonstop which isn’t bad. Won’t improve and availability on nonstop could be an issue. You can save money only by changing dates or having very long layovers. Otherwise, won’t improve.
Aloha.
Hi Carla,
Thanks for your nice words!
Aloha.
Hi Carla,
Hmmm. Wondering if you could find someone else who might tag along (even on Craigslist). How much of a discount will they offer on 10? Interesting predicament. 🙂
Aloha.
Aloha.
Thank you!
Hi,
Myself and my wife are planning for a trip from LAX to Hilo/Kona in the month of May, no specific dates. I have been watching that prices are increasing too much over last 2 months. Please suggest, do we need to wait for any better deals or should book now?
Thanks!
Hi Shiv,
The post has all the information we know. More deals will be forthcoming and we suggest waiting. Los Angeles may not participate much in true sales except to Maui and Honolulu. But some easing should occur.
Aloha.
Thanks for the update!
We are traveling to Maui Oct. 3rd thru Oct. 24th from SJC. Tickets are at about $440 right now. Do you think there will be much variation in those fares in the upcoming months?
Mahalo nui loa, Jerry
+
Hi Jerry,
While $440 is a good price, you’ll do better to wait on that highly competitive route.
Aloha.
Thanks for all the info! I’m planning a trip for 2 from Boston to Maui 8/12-19/2016 and currently see flights for about $800 RT per person. These dates are at the edge of the dates your post mentions so I was curious whether you would recommend to book or wait. Thanks!
Hi Helen,
We can’t tell if your dates will improve by waiting. As you can see a few days later the price drops to the mid $600’s. Gut call is to wait.
Aloha.
Thanks!
Hi Scott,
It’s the price on the 24th that’s holding up the price.
Aloha.
Thanks for the advice.
Hi Michelle,
That’s a pretty good price. No indication it will come down, but if you care to wait and see, given your mid-week post spring break dates, probably no harm either.
Aloha.
Thank you much!
Hi Maryann,
Congratulations!
Aloha.
Hi – family of 5 (2 adults, 3 kids) flying from Toronto YYZ to Big Island KOA from Dec 11, 2016 to Dec 22, 2016.
Seeing flights from $733 CAD, which is about $535 US.
Is that a good price or should I wait?
Thanks,
Ash
Hi Ash,
Your dates are a little late in December for best pricing. Waiting probably won’t help. Also while we see the $542 fare on your dates, that has a very long connection (almost 19 hours). For $625 you have a 13 hour total time. Both of these on Westjet.
Aloha.
Hello
We are looking at flying lax to Hnl June 11-28. Prices right now are $765. Do you think that will go down. We can depart from a different airport, would you recommend another?
Any insight is appreciated!
Thanks!
Hi Terrilynne,
Because Virgin America will start flying before then out of LA, it might work best to wait. No guarantee, just a gut feeling.
Aloha.
Thanks for the reply. Do the prices typically go up from $765 for this time of year? Just worried they might increase.
Hi Terrilynne,
That’s about normal, but most in demand dates/flights can be higher or more likely, just not available. This year the new carrier may help to control prices.
Aloha.
looking to fly 4/23 from MSP to LIH. Flights are about $850. Should I hold out and see if they go down?
Hi AJ.
Leaving on 4/23, with most return dates prices are in mid to high $600’s. Won’t improve.
Aloha.
Hi Sandy,
As you’ve seen in the post already, Seattle is in a favorable environment for discounted pricing. While $500 is an average, gut says to wait and it might improve. You have nothing to lose by waiting as availability at that time will not be an issue and prices won’t be higher.
Aloha.
Madison, WI-Maui $733 RT on fares for last week of May on United. None of the other major carriers (Delta, American) are under $850RT. What are the chances the other carriers will go on sale as well?
Hi Jay,
Might come down if you wait. Target is $750-$775.
Aloha.
Hello,
I’m currently making plans to fly to Honolulu with my wife. The date we plan on leaving is Aug/24-31. the cheapest price i see is through Hawaiian Airlines at $438 round trip.I thought that was a good price. But in your opinion do you think it will get any lower? I wish i could be flexible with the dates, But I cant.
thank you.
Hi J.
You didn’t say where you’re flying from – your IP address says SMF. Based on the price your stating, perhaps you’re flying out of OAK. That’s a good price. It might improve a little but not guaranteed. Suggest buying.
Aloha.
I’m sorry I forgot to mention what city. But yes I’m leaving from Oakland Ca. And thank you very much for the reply. I think I’ll go ahead and Buy my tickets. I cant wait!
Aloha
We live in Detroit, and are planning a trip to Maui September 2-11. Currently fare has been hovering around 850. I looked into flying out of Windsor, Canada as the rate is about $200 cheaper flying Air Canada. Have you heard of any issues with this airline, and can you foresee any problem flying out of Canada?
thank you so much!
Hi Aniela,
Air Canada has been flying to Hawaii forever. No issues that we would be aware of other than customs formalities of course.
Aloha.
Flying from Oakland to Maui 7/25/16 thru 7/30/16. I’m thinking of buying 1 way flight Oak to Ogg @ $329 now and waiting for the price of the return trip to come down. What do you recommend?
Hi Em,
Not at all likely price will come down. Therefore, don’t suggest waiting.
Aloha.
My family is planning a trip to Maui & Oahu from Seattle 6/16-6/23. The best deal I can find now is $687.97 per person on Priceline. What do you recommend? book now or wait? Thanks!
Hi Cathy,
We find $618 RT into Maui and out of Seattle on this dates on Hawaiian. Excellent price for summer. Inter-island is highly dependent on time of day/day of week and varies from about $80 to $200.
Aloha.
We are planning on traveling from Utah to Kauai and Oahu May 5th – 15th. Prices for flights have not gone down in the 4 months we have been watching them. Would you still recommend waiting?
Hi Trevor.
Yes SLC is a bit stuck at the moment. Little chance of price increasing and more chance of it decreasing. Availability not an issue.
Aloha.
Hi Heather,
Nonstop on Alaska is currently $488 which is really quite good for that route if you choose to buy now. Leaves at 10:20am and arrives at 1:35pm. This flight is great, eliminating the need to transit Honolulu and having very convenient travel times. More options will not become available.
Aloha.
We have a family wedding in Oahu flying out from Oakland, CA for October 2016. Flight is now $438, will there be better deals coming out?
Forgot to mention the date, it’s October 15, 2016.
Thanks!
Hi Amy,
Probably so if you wait. Details of when you might expect this is already contained in the post. Potential savings of $50-$100.
Aloha.
Thanks!!! 😄
Thanks,
Hi Chris,
Your dates make any deals unlikely. Bay area is best. Midweek during your date range on Hawaiian quite a few $619 fares on nonstop. That fare is one to strike on.
Aloha.
Best,
Christine
Hi Christine,
Your IP address says Boston and you didn’t say (as a reminder to others we need to know exact routing in order to help). Since HA flies only from NYC, perhaps you’re planning to fly from there. Not really sure. Also you said Hawaiian Miles, so not sure why you’re referring to $1100 and not to miles required.
Can you clarify the above and we’ll be happy to try and help.
Aloha.
Hello!
I will be flying from PHL to HNL sometime between September 3,2016 & September 17,2016. The cheapest flight I see now is $850. Do you think the price will go down?, I was told by a friend to start looking in April, I’m afraid that the prices may go up.
Hi Regina,
Our best guidance on this is already in the post. Wait for target price of under $700.
Aloha.
Any insight on when might be an ideal time to book a flight from Sacramento to Maui for travel in mid-August?
Thank you much!
Hi Stacey,
Our best guidance on pricing for late summer is already in the post. Stay tuned.
Aloha.
Hi. We are cruiseing from Honolulu on Christmas Eve 2016. What do you think should be the latest time to book a flight from Phoenix,Az. Thanks so much.
Hi Leonard,
It would be best to book that immediately. Depending on what days you actually fly, prices from just under $700 to $800’s.
Aloha.
Hi Megan,
There is a small chance of some deals from either SFO or LAX due to the new flights from Virgin America. Not likely for your dates however and availability could definitely become an issue. Peak. There are no coupons or promo codes.
Aloha.
Unfortunately, that’s what I was thinking. Have you heard anything else about potential Southwest Airlines flights to Hawaii? It would be perfect if they started routes there this summer!
Thanks for your help!
Hi Megan,
Latest update on SWA here: https://beatofhawaii.com/southwest-hawaii-airline-update/.
Aloha.
Hi, My family of 4 wants to fly Oakland to Kona sometime in the summer, leaving around June 9 or August 12. Prices are $600+ now. Is that the best I can get or should I wait and see? Thanks!
Hi Eowyn,
June will be quite expensive – in the $600’s. August should improve (currently $500’s) if you wait, but June won’t.
Aloha.
