As we have mentioned multiple times before, United Airlines Hawaii flights will remain a disruptor in this industry with better deals than seen from them in years. They don’t plan to take competition from new Hawaiian Airlines A321neo fleet and upcoming Southwest Hawaii flights sitting down. We have not heard the last from Alaska Airlines either, which has a major stake in Hawaii air travel.
Boston has become interesting and competitive since Hawaiian Airlines Boston route was announced earlier this year. That flight will operate 5 times weekly starting this spring. The 5,095 mile route will be the longest domestic flight in US history and the first ever nonstop to Hawaii from Boston.
For today’s deals, travel from the mainland or from Hawaii from January until March 2019, with dates and availability fast changing, and dependent on route. Mostly mid-week travel. Purchase tickets immediately, since this could end at any time. Prices shown are each way based on round trip, including all taxes and fees.

We fly non-stop on Alaska Flight 837 from San Jose to Honolulu 2-3 times a year. The scheduled departure times have changed from 9 AM to 7 AM to 8 AM. Getting to the airport for a 7 AM flight is horrible. The flight time for a May departure date is now 7 AM again.
Do you know why the times keep changing? FAA? Airplane usage?

We don’t know why the keep changing but concur about some of the AS schedules being very difficult at time. Suggest it is probably to maximum utilization of their aircraft.
We fly to San Diego, and arriving after 11pm makes it hard to get a vacation rental for example.

There are mid-$600 fares all of March. If it does go do, likely earlier in March and then only by perhaps $100. Might work better to buy now.

Hello, I am looking for any insight on flights at the end of June. We will be flying out of Seattle to Maui. A few months ago I saw a great deal of $377 round trip and I am kicking myself for not purchasing because the return trip seemed undesirable with layovers etc. Now looking at the prices I would be OK with the layovers to save money for 5 of us to fly there. Please any insight you can provide will be most appreciated! Thanks so much!

United still has $376 RT at end of June, but only if you’re flexible. Try 6/26 departure and many returns in early July will work. Hope that helps.

Sorry if this is a repeat. I think I deleted my first post. I saw Alaska flights last week $302 salt lake to hnl. should have grabbed then but hesitated. I am looking at Februsry/March 2019. Pretty flexible. Do you think I will see those prices again? Especially when Southwest announces routes? Saw $285 yesterday from lax but it would cost $128 for me to get from slc to lax so does not make sense. I am bringing all my kids so I need a screaming deal. It would help tremendously if I had any insight on what Southwest might offer for pricing from slc to hnl. Obviously with a layover in Cali. Just hoping it spurs Delta to drop their nonstop routes from slc to hnl! I love those direct flights. Right now Delta is way over priced for them. I have purchased those direct flights at $425 in the past but am hoping they might go cheaper when Southwest opens thier scheduling. Any insight would be helpful of what a good strike price should be from slc to hnl.

That route isn’t great right now. Lowest price with stops at any point in time is low $400’s. Could come down, but not sure. Nonstop is running at least a couple of hundred more.
Yes we still see the $285 airfares from LAX. It is just not pretty to have to have multiple tickets with all the associated issues of luggage, security, etc. It it is all on Delta, seems like it should work better.
As for any Southwest effect, it is too soon to say. Certainly in the direct markets, but unsure about connecting markets such as yours.

Any predictions on southwest Hawaii pricing? I want to travel from Salt Lake City to hnl in February. Saw a deal yesterday from Delta, and many others, for $285 from lax but it would cost me another $128 on top of that to get to l.A. I’m deflated because I saw $302 rt slc to hnl on Alaska last week but it was for January instead of February. Do you think I will see numbers like that again? I’m really curious if southwest pricing will get me from slc to hnl in the $300 range. And if Alaska will drop those prices again? Any insight?

Hello, my family of 6 will be traveling to Maui over spring break 2019, April 13-20. Do you expect lower fares for this time period when SW starts their routes. Or are all bets off when it comes to Spring Break. We are in Bakersfield, Ca and are willing to fly out of the 4 airports they are starting with. We wouldn’t expect your dates to be cheap under any circumstances. Towards end of spring break (which with time could work in your favor). But both Saturdays – that will cost you unless you can move to mid-week.
Target for mid-week is $400’s RT and for Saturdays perhaps nearly double that. Currently pricing at nearly $1,000 RT.

We’ll be in Paniolo Greens 10-26 to 11-2. Problem is, Southwest won’t be flying to Kona yet, & the “Southwest effect” hasn’t really affected prices yet.
A complication is my desire to bring professional camera gear. Cameras & lenses must be carry-on.

My family and I are planning a trip to Maui this coming June 14, 2019. This will be our fourth visit and have tried waiting out the market to buy when prices drop out by using apps like Hopper and Kayak.
I keep reading about Southwest affect on pricing, etc. I haven’t really seen prices below $700. Should I wait until after October? Should I buy closer to April/May? Is the Southwest Affect happening sooner rather than later? I know the airline is required a certain number of flights with their aircraft to prove safety. What would be the best time to purchase tickets? By the way, we can fly from LAX, Long Beach or even willing to drive to San Diego airport to save money.

Prices for June 14 – Friday in peak of summer “might” drop into $500’s if you wait. San Diego most likely. But only time will tell. $700 is more normal.

$500 to $700 on multiple carriers largely depending on number of flights and overall duration. For your specific dates probably won’t improve. But for example 11/6-22 is $362 RT with fastest connection on Delta.

You did not indicate where you are flying to. But that not withstanding, we aren’t seeing the best fares for spring and you’ll need to wait anywhere up to six months for that to happen.

For 10 or more traveling together, be sure to contact group sales at the various airlines. That might help by say 10%. Otherwise, both departure and return dates are expensive compared with mid-week and we don’t find anything more to suggest other than changing dates. Mid-week is starting about $575 (mostly one airline out and another one back).
