My wife and I are traveling from San Diego to Kauai in January for the “Hawaiian Eye” convention in Po’ipu. I noticed the amount of “miles” it takes to fly has gone down somewhat relative to prices on Alaska. (this is my first time using miles to book a flight)Is this common? Think prices are going lower or is now a good time to book.

Hi Scott.
With upcoming announcement from SWA, prices could be more variable. They will not be flying nonstop to Kauai, however, so if that is what you would like, SW will not be an option. For nonstop, it isn’t clear that the prices would go lower. Currently $348 RT available non-stop. Suggest buying.

We love your website and your great vacation advice. We are traveling from San Jose, CA. to Kauai next May. We’ve been checking fares and they are extremely higher than our last trip which was May of this year. Hawaiian is running in the $580 to $610 range. We booked for $445 our last trip. Should we wait it out for a few months?

Thank you. Yes definitely wait until we get to that season. We’re still at the point of fall sales, and the beginning of 2019. You might need to wait from 3 to 6 months. SW might have a positive effect on pricing for that route.
